Trish Stratus is believed to be the number one female wrestler to perform in a WWE ring for a reason. Today’s female superstars must have been more prolific than her when it comes to a technicality in wrestling while Trish comes from a different timespan when the least amount of opportunities were available for the women. They were mostly used as love interests for male superstars or for skin-show purposes.
Shattering the ceiling glass wasn’t that easy but Trish Stratus did that setting an example. This is the reason she was part of the first-ever main event match from the female division with Lita, back in 2004 and that too, when she didn’t have any traditional training in wrestling. For all the rightful reasons, recently she was named the greatest women’s wrestler in WWE history.
Trish Stratus Recalls Memorable Wrestlemania Moments From WWE Career
While appearing on WWE’s The Bump on YouTube, Trish stratus was asked about receiving that honor and she seemed caught off-guard with the question by the host,
“I was completely content with being anywhere in the top five,” she said. “And I for sure didn’t think I was number one, because I wasn’t at the forefront at the present moment. To be honest I was really shocked. They put that amazing video together and it takes you back to just reliving moments. It was very special, very emotional. I don’t know; it was a weird thing because it’s a list.”
Moving on, Trish Stratus also discussed her storyline in a WrestleMania X-7 match between Vince and Shane McMahon. During that match, she pushed Linda McMahon, who was in a coma state, heading to the ring. Stratus then turned on Vince, slapped him, and fought Stephanie to the back. Two decades later, Stratus still believes that event went on to change her career for good.
“As we laid it out, everything meant something,” the Hall of Famer recalled. “Every little motion, from Linda standing up to my slap to Stephanie. It was super fun to watch it back.
“As a character that was a turning point for me. That was my whole ‘I’m not going to take this anymore. I’m going to stand up; I’m going to believe in myself. I don’t need you, I don’t need a man.”
Flashback: Trish Stratus Forced To Strip On WWE Raw, 20 Years Ago
Trish Stratus had a controversial angle with Vine McMahon
Now, this particular storyline is also infamous for WWE injecting some controversial acts into it. Trish Stratus and Vince were playing the role of an on-screen couple leading into the Mania match. On an episode of Raw, Vince had his eye-candy strip down to her lingerie and bark like a dog. Stratus reacted saying those angles made the ‘Mania turn-on Vince look so much stronger.
“As everyone knows it was a long journey of questionable moments before that between Vince and I,” Stratus said. “As a character, I knew this was the end point and it was culminating in this point.
“Everything we did, including THAT event, was worth it. It was completely worth it for the character and the evolution of the character. And it meant that much more for us to get there to that point. It was an awesome moment for me as a character.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
Trish Stratus is considered to be retired from WWE in-ring competition after Summerslam 2019 where she lost a match against Charlotte Flair in her hometown of Toronto. However, we can ‘never say never’ as she kept on coming back on WWE programming for one-off occasions to work with the newer talents.
