Samoa Joe is set to compete against Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship at WWE NXT TakeOver 36 on August 22, as first reported by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The current storyline from NXT also suggests the same as they have been involved in a heated angle. Kross choked Joe last week while this week, he attacked the general manager William Regal.
This week, Samoa Joe wanted to become a performer once again. Regal signed the paper and Joe became a wrestler. Joe then requested that Regal should book him against Kross for the NXT Championship at WWE NXT TakeOver 36. Regal made it official and hence WWE is also officially advertising the match on their website.
That being said, Samoa Joe has been provoked enough who will compete in his first wrestling match in over a year at WWE NXT TakeOver 36. His last match took place on a February 10, 2020, episode of Monday Night Raw where he teamed up with Kevin Owens and The Viking Raiders for a loss to Seth Rollins, the Authors Of Pain – Akam and Rezar, and Murphy.
Afterward, a number of reasons have kept him, out of action, since then. He had suffered a concussion while doing a suicide dive on a January 27, 2020 episode of Raw. He would be cleared to compete to action the following week, but then he would suffer another concussion while filming a commercial for Raw in early February which ruled him out of competition.

Joe was then suspended in late February following his first violation of WWE’s Wellness Policy although no details were provided on the same. He would then go on to work on Raw commentary starting from April of last year, until his release, earlier this year in April. By the looks of it, Joe is now cleared to compete who is cleared to compete at WWE NXT TakeOver 36.
Joe previously revealed that immediately after his initial WWE release, he spoke with Triple H about a potential return to the company on the NXT brand where he would be valued. Reports also claimed that employees and NXT officials made a strong internal push to have Joe brought back to the company as he would now be heading to WWE NXT TakeOver 36.
In more news from the PPV event to be produced by NXT during the SummerSlam weekend, the next NXT Women’s Championship was also set up during the July 23 episode. The reigning champion Raquel Gonzalez has reportedly found her next opponent in her own tag team partner Dakota Kai who will reportedly collide at WWE NXT TakeOver 36.
During this week’s TV tapings, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez were in the ring when the latter asked if anyone would challenge her for her title. Suddenly, Kai turned on Raquel by kicking her, and then she held the NXT Women’s Title over her head. If the angle continues to unfold, next week then Raquel Gonzalez vs. Dakota Kai should be the next title match lineup for WWE NXT TakeOver 36.
