Making the expectations true, we have new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions starting from this week’s WWE Raw. The team of Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY better known as Damage CTRL have become the holders of the Women’s Tag Team Championships that were vacant even two weeks ago. A tournament was hosted to crown new tag champs which were won by Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah but now they’ve lost the belts.
In their first title defense within two weeks of winning, Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah lost their belts against the same team they have won the belts from – Dakota Kai and IYO SKY. A lot of people criticized WWE for putting the women’s tag titles on Raquel and Aliyah in the first place and they will be happy with Damage CTRL finally winning the gold.

It didn’t happen in the tournament but they didn’t have to wait long, after all, to win the gold. WWE creative seemed to rectify their mistake on this week’s episode of WWE Raw from Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The newly crowned champions defended their titles for the first time and lost in the process in the title match.

Dakota Kai got the pinfall win over Aliyah on WWE Raw
The finish of the match on WWE Raw saw Rodriguez leveling Dakota Kai with a couple of lariats. She also hit a corkscrew splash off the middle rope before making the tag to Aliyah. Rodriguez sent her tag partner onto Kai but IYO Sky attacked her from behind. Aliyah tried roll-up Dakota Kai just like their last match on WWE Raw, two weeks ago but Kai kicked out this time.
Aliyah hit a jawbreaker on Kai and went for the pin but Bayley put Kai’s foot on the rope to avoid the pinfall loss and thereby allow her to force the break. This led to Aliyah delivering a baseball kick to Bayley before Sky took her out with a shot. Dakota Kai then delivered the Kai-ropractor for the win in the opening match of WWE Raw and become the new champions.
With this win, the heel duo holds the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the main roster. However, this is not the first time that the two have been tag champions. Back on NXT, SKY won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship with her former partner and current NXT star, Zoey Stark.
Kai won the tag team championships twice when she was teaming with her former tag team partner, and now the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Raquel Rodriguez. Following, this win on WWE Raw, WWE is also promoting DAMAGE CTRL as the show-runners of the main roster.
