WWE is a place where performers around the whole world are gathered to showcase their talents. The company takes relevant steps to minimize any of the risks related to controversial topics like racism.

But often it gets stirred up by certain superstars. In recent times, NXT’s Jordan Myles faced the issue. Now a veteran female pro-wrestler Gail Kim has also spoken up about the same.

During an interview on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia, Gail Kim reflected on her time in the WWE and spoke about the bitter experiences she faced while working there. It was in 2018, that the Impact Wrestling Hall of Famer shared her frustration with WWE’s working relationship with Saudi Arabia.

She was also angered with how they were bringing Hulk Hogan back for Crown Jewel even after he made racial remarks.

Gail Kim said that WWE was racist, and “they don’t care if anyone is racist because they have the same thoughts” while speaking about the Hulk Hogan issue. But later someone within the WWE talked to Kim which made her realize she had to justify her original statements.

As per her, the fan or whoever tried to backtrack it was happy with the fact that someone famous would be happy about opposing a piece which gives them a reason to stir up controversy.

“I said they’re racist, and then I made… I was clear on my statement,” Gail Kim informed. “Then this writer – or a fan – wrote his opinion about it. He’s like, ‘Gail Kim backtracked on her statement.’ But, I was clarifying it. So, I got upset that he said I backtracked and I wrote, ‘Wrong.’ That’s all I said. All the fans who read it completely backed me [up]. And that’s why they pulled down the article. It wasn’t because they actually said they didn’t want to pull it down. They’re like, ‘We would be happy for you to write a piece to oppose it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m not writing a piece for you to help your website.’ The fans read everything, and they backed me [up] and that’s why they took it down.”

For those who don’t know, Gail Kim spent her initial career in the WWE for two separate occasions during the Women’s Era as well as the Divas Era before jumping ship to TNA.

Kim recalled when she was in the WWE, she did everything to win over the officials, but it did not get rid of the personal turmoil and made her realize the true potential. It was knocked in her mind that perhaps something related to skin color has something to do with it.

“I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do here because I do everything you guys ask me to do,” Gail Kim noted. “It got to a point where I’m like, ‘Am I too Asian?’ I was literally highlighting my hair near the end to become more white. I didn’t know what to do at that point. That’s why I left, because I’m like, I know I have more to give to this business and you hired me back for a reason. I did do something, and you brought me back for a reason… I felt very suppressed.”

However, looking back to her WWE career, Gail Kim does not have any regrets. She sees her time with the company as a good thing, because it helped her to pursue a successful career in TNA which was later converted into Impact Wrestling. Even in WWE, she ended up winning the Women’s Championship for a one-off occasion but that appeared to be a forgettable run.
