CM Punk was back to the headlines of pro-wrestling industry by showing up in an independent event over last weekend. He shocked the world by hitting a Superstar with the ‘Go To Sleep’ helping the opponent to come up with the win. However, sources revealing the identity of the superstar who hit the famous GTS became the breaking news on the internet.

Former Divas Champion came out of a rape condition

It was none other than the former WWE Champion who returned to a squares circle and went physical. It was indeed a surprising incident to note which was in total contrast of his early promise. CM Punk previously denied coming back to the wrestling circuit, at all. In fact, he admitted being a retired person. He intended to be far away from WWE or any other wrestling promotion in order to stick to his commitment.

However, this comeback to an independent show does not fulfill his commitment. So why would a Straight Edge Leader like him be ready to make the comeback? Recently SportsKeeda.com published a report on the exact statement of CM Punk from earlier that indicates one-off appearance but not a full-time return.

Here’s what the self-proclaimed Best in the World stated in return in an interview he did with the Russillo & Kanell show back in 2016,

“No, I don’t think so. But it is one of those ‘never say never’ things. I like to cover all my bases, just so some internet dweeb is going to be like, ‘you said you’d never wrestle again!’ But WWE? No. Absolutely not. But you never know, I could pop up here and there. Let me explain that to you even better: it’s not going to even be televised, it’s going to be me in a ninja f***** outfit wrestling one of my buddies and nobody’s ever going to know. It’s going to be very ‘Monty Python,’ so to speak.”

So yes, he never denied staying away from wrestling from a permanent basis. After all, he was one of the best wrestlers in the world and the bug living inside him is hard to get rid of. So no wonder he makes appearances around the independent scene be it hiding his own identity. He even made appearances in the past which did not get that much attention since he was under the mask.

Even in the latest show-up, CM Punk appeared in a completely covered up outfit so that no one could recognize him. It was a desperate attempt to hide his identity but this time around the media was awake enough to recognize him and make it a piece of viral news. With that, the rumors of him returning to squared circle especially in AEW Double or Nothing is going viral. However, it does look like he is happy doing such sporadic appearances rather than making regular show-ups.
