How Newcastle Could Line Up Next Season with New Billionaire Owners

The last 13 years have been tumultuous for Newcastle United. Since Mike Ashley took over, things went from bad to worse fast. It’s no wonder the proposed takeover by a Saudi Arabian consortium fronted by crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has elicited so much excitement.

For the Magpies currently wallowing at position 13 in the EPL standings, the takeover would be just what the doctor prescribed. Already, big names are being linked with the club, and if such transfers were to materialise, then this would no doubt become one of the most powerful Premier League teams.

Of course, football fans love the thrill of big-name transfers in EPL. If you want to predict the next big transfers, then head over to SBO, where you can find the best bookies to place this bet with.

The £300million takeover

The proposed £300million takeover has led Newcastle fans to start dreaming now that they have seen what big money can do to a club.

From Chelsea, Manchester City to PSG, it’s not hard to see why the Toon Army is so excited by this development, especially with word out that the Premier League had allegedly agreed to the acquisition of the club. If this move goes through, it will make the Magpies one of only five Premier League clubs who can splash signings this summer.

Amanda Staveley is the financier leading the Newcastle takeover and the head of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). PIF is said to own assets totalling more than £260bn which would make the group the wealthiest owners in EPL.

Probable Big Name Signings

Clubs like Man City and Chelsea got a blank cheque when wealthy owners took over, and this is the same expectation at Newcastle. It was such investment that brought big players that shaped revival at these EPL clubs.

While it would take some work to attract new players to Tyneside, the Magpies can get all the seven players they need to make the team next season. There’s also a possibility of making Danny Rose’s deal permanent.

Better still, high-profile managers such as Mauricio Pochettino, Rafel Benitez, Zinedine Zidane, and Max Allegri have all been lined up as possible replacements for Steve Bruce.

Among the top names being touted for a new-look Newcastle is Kalidou Koulibaly in defence. For the last few seasons, the Ivorian has attracted a lot of attention with Manchester United being a major probable destination.

The Napoli center-back is now considered one of the best defenders in the world and his £100million price tag says it all. With a fat purse, Newcastle can now open talks, and the Toon Army would love seeing the bulky centre-back at St. James’ Park.

Another rumoured target in the new lineup is Arturo Vidal. The indefatigable 32-year-old midfielder has a year left at Barcelona and would be a cheap bargain for Newcastle United. The Chilean is still a powerhouse in the midfield and would make an immediate impact at St. James’ Park.

Philippe Coutinho is another possible contender for the new lineup as Barcelona is still keen to offload the Brazilian, and Bayern have not confirmed a permanent deal.  It would be a win-win for the player who would finally find a stable home and all the teams involved.

Newcastle has also reportedly set their sights on Real Betis midfielder Nabil Fekir. After spurning Liverpool’s interest and joining Real Betis, Nabil has impressed with seven goals and three assists. He would be a perfect fit for the Magpies as the team looks for a natural goal scorer.

A raid for Ajax’s Donny van der Beek has also been mentioned, but there’s competition from Manchester United among other top clubs in Europe. If Newcastle was to cause a surprise and grab Donny van der Beek, it would be a sign that the club is ready to become a leading force again in the top flight once more.

Of course, there have been other big names linked with Newcastle’s expected revival after the takeover. They include Chelsea winger Willian, PSG legend Edinson Cavani, out of favour Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann and Benfica’s midfield playmaker Rafa Silva.

Premier League players, including Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn and Burnley winger Dwight McNeil are also on Newcastle’s radar as well as Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, and AC Milan duo Franck Kessie and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Players Likely to Remain at St. James’ Park

Any new signings would link up with the existing personnel at St. James’ Park, who are likely to survive a purge. These include outstanding Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, full-back Paul Dummett, captain Jamaal Lascelles, stand-out player Allan Saint-Maximin.

As the takeover hurtles to a conclusion, it’s understandable that the Toon Army is over the moon about future possibilities. After all, which team doesn’t like to win?

Tottenham beat Newcastle in EPL tie

London, May 10: Harry Kane’s goal early in the second half was all Tottenham Hotspur needed to defeat Newcastle United 1-0 and assure themselves of playing Champions League football in the 2018-2019 season.

Wednesday night’s win boosts Spurs to third place with 74 points, two ahead of Liverpool and five better than Chelsea, who settled for a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge in one of Wednesday’s other English Premier League (EPL) matches, reports EFE news agency.

Tottenham were not at their best for most of the contest at London’s Wembley Stadium, but super-striker Kane delivered again and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was stalwart at the back to take all three points.

To finish in the top four, Chelsea needs to beat Newcastle away in their final match and hope for Liverpool to lose at Anfield to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Newcastle crush down Arsenal at St James’ Park

Arsenal’s wait for a first away point in the Premier League this season endures as another display defined by the error-strewn defence of Shkodran Mustafi saw them turn an early lead over Newcastle into a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.

No other side in the top flight have lost all their games on the road this season but Arsene Wenger’s troops are now nought-for-five in 2018. Their losing run seemed set to end when Alexandre Lacazette volleyed them into a 14th minute lead but their defence could not hold Newcastle at bay.

First Perez beat Mustafi at the near post to draw the Magpies level before half-time and then both Nacho Monreal and the German made a mess of a simple scenario as Matt Ritchie struck the winner 22 minutes from time.

For the first time since the latter’s January arrival Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lined up in the same starting XI, with Joe Willock the latest youngster from Arsenal’s academy to be handed a Premier League debut.

Arsenal seemed to be holding Newcastle at bay despite the Magpies disciplined rally and could have doubled their lead when Aubameyang cut in from the left but drove over, his shot taking a feint deflection off Jamal Lascelles’ hand.

The Gunners’ defence in particular was impressing but their ability to self-inflict problems cannot be underestimated.

Neither side were able to muster up much in the way of attack in the second half, Matt Ritchie’s drive over 20 minutes into the period the first time either side had mustered up a shot on goal.

He would do much better moments later as once more Arsenal’s defence switched off. Monreal looped a clearing header up and far away from safety. Mustafi ambled in pursuit of the ball and Newcastle worked the ball from left to right and Ritchie, who struck a well-placed effort beyond Cech.

As Arsenal threw men forward they left gaps at the back that Kenedy and Perez nearly exploited whilst at the other end the Gunners just couldn’t manufacture space to get convincing shots away on Dubravka’s goal.

Man City extend streak with win over Newcastle

Newcastle (England), Dec 28: Manchester City extended their English Premier League record-winning streak to 18 with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Pep Guardiola’s side are now 15 points ahead of second-place Manchester United in the battle for the title, reports Efe.

Facing the City juggernaut here on Wednesday, Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez opted for a game plan focused exclusively on defending. Even so, his squad conceded in the 31st minute, when Raheem Sterling buried Kevin de Bruyne’s cross to post his 13th goal of the season.

The hosts had a chance to equalise four minutes later, but City defender Nicolas Otamendi made a spectacular goal-line stop against Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons to preserve the advantage.

The visitors’ domination extended into the second half, yet their failure to get a second goal set the stage for a late surge by Newcastle, whose best opportunity came in the 89th minute with a Dwight Gayle header that forced a great save from City goalkeeper Ederson.

The outcome leaves Newcastle in 15th place with 18 points.

Tottenham Kick Off EPL Season With 2-0 Win Over Newcastle

London, Aug 13 (IANS) Tottenham Hotspur FC successfully kicked off their English Premier League (EPL) football season with a 2-0 away victory over 10-man Newcastle United at the St James’ Park Stadium on Sunday.

Both Tottenham and hosts Newcastle failed to open the scoring in the first half. But Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was sent off just three minutes from the beginning of the second half after a clash with Tottenham’s Dele Alli to give advantage to the tourists.

Alli opened scoring in the 61st minutes for Tottenham, which last season had finished runners-up in the EPL, reports Efe.

Ben Davies scored the second goal just nine minutes later to secure the first victory for Tottenham.

After this away victory, Tottenham are provisionally in the third position in the EPL table with three points, while Newcastle are in the penultimate place with none.

Newcastle United Sign Merino From Borussia Dortmund

London, July 28 (IANS) Newcastle United on Friday confirmed the signing of Spanish Under-21 international Mikel Merino on a season-long loan deal from Borussia Dortmund.

Merino told the Newcastle club website: “It feels good and I’m very happy to be here, to be part of this club. I’m looking forward to touching the ball, meeting my new team-mates and starting to play football.”

The Spanish coach said that Merino has to demonstrate his skills and hopefully he can enjoy playing at Newcastle for a long time.

“I know it’s a great club and a really nice city. I had different options but I think this is the right place for me to play,” Merino added.

The 21-year-old is the fifth player to join the Magpies this summer. Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo arrived last week.

Javier Manquillo

Newcastle Sign Manquillo On 3-year Contract From Atletico

London, July 21 (IANS) English football club Newcastle United announced on Friday the signing of Spanish Javier Manquillo on a three-year contract from Atletico Madrid.

Recently promoted to the English Premier League (EPL), Newcastle said on its website that Manquillo has joined his new teammates, without giving any further details about the deal, reports Efe.

The 23-year-old Manquillo told his new club’s account on Twitter “Some things are just better in black and white”.

Manquillo, who started his career at La Liga Atletico Madrid, has played on loan at Liverpool, Marseille and Sunderland in the last three seasons.

“I’m very happy to be here. From the first moment that Rafa Benitez called me, I just knew that I had to come here, to such a big club,” Manquillo told the Magpie’s website.

“I’ve come here to work hard and give everything on and off the pitch. Hopefully, then everything will go in the right direction,” he added.

This is the fourth deal for Newcastle this transfer window, after English winger Jacob Murphy, Ghana international Christian Atsu and French centre-back Florian Lejeune.

Former Newcastle Footballer Tiote Dies While Training

Beijing, June 5 (IANS) Former Newcastle United midfielder and Ivory Coast footballer Cheick Tiote died at the age of 30 after collapsing during training here on Monday.

Tiote played for Beijing Enterprises in the second division of the Chinese league. The player had been taken ill after training.

He was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“We are devastated to have learnt of the tragic passing of Cheick Tiote at the age of just 30,” Newcastle said in a statement.

Tiote begun his pro career in Belgium with Anderlecht, a period which included a loan spell with Roda JC.

It was during his time with FC Twente in the Netherlands that he made a name for himself as an effective defensive midfielder, making 86 appearances for the Dutch side.

Tiote subsequently moved to English Premier League to join Newcastle in 2010 and made over 150 appearances for the side.

Tiote’s former teammate at Newcastle, Demba Ba, tweeted: “May Allah gives grant you Jannah brother Tiote.”

Big Blow For The Toons As Rafa Benitez Threatens To Quit After A Dull Transfer Window

The Premier League is one of the toughest leagues in world football and the managers and players will attest to every word of it. The expectations on the players is so high that not many manage to live up to them while the pressure on the managers to get their teams to win, is also immense.

With the top flight of English football posing so many threats, the domestic circuit in England also comes with its own challenges.

One manager who is now finding that out the harsh way is Spanish manager Rafa Benitez.

Big Blow For The Toons As Rafa Benitez Threatens To Quit After A Dull Transfer Window 7

Having taken over the Newcastle side late last season, Benitez, failed to keep them in the top flight, even after an impressive run of results as the Magpies were relegated for the first time in more than 5 years.

However, their reputation allowed them to hold on to one of the most decorated managers in the history of the sport in Rafa as they managed to keep him at the club with some promises.

It is understood that the owner Mike Ashley and the managing director Lee Charnley, assured Benitez of a few things to keep him at the club. included no player leaving the club unless Benitez agreed, Ashley handing him a sizeable transfer budget and the manager, unlike his recent predecessors, having the final say on all transfers.

However, reports today suggest that Rafa Benitez is planning on leaving the club at the end of the season as a couple of those promises were not fulfilled in the January transfer window.

The Toons failed to take their chance to move to the top of the Championship table this week as QPR’s last minute equalizer kept them in the 2nd place, just a point off Brighton at the top of the table.

And the manager was evidently frustrated after the game in the press conference when he ate into his players for their performances.

According to the reports, Rafa is angry with the club’s hierarchy as they failed to land one of his top transfer targets in January in Andros Townsend in January.

The winger left the club in the last transfer window but was up for sale in January and Newcastle United was extensively linked with a move for him even on deadline day.

And though the St James outfit had most of the Moussa Sissoko’s transfer fee of £30m in the bank, they failed to spend on transfer targets last month and have lost the trust of the manager.

It is now reported the Rafa wants to leave the club in the summer and believes that the club has made it awfully tougher for themselves to move into the top flight next season.

The former Liverpool manager was expected to stay at the St James for years to come, establishing Newcastle as a force to reckon with for years to come but if these reports are anything to go by, Rafa may not be at the club for so long.

Do you think Newcastle are right in not spending big on Townsend?

Premier League table toppers Chelsea have been one of the most consistent teams in the top flight of English football this season.

Antonio Conte the new manager at the club, has made a number of changes to the squad at the club and will be happy with the progress that he has made in his first season in England.

However, he is evidently not too happy with the options at his disposal and is trying to add a few players to the squad this January. This has seen him linked with a number of star players recently but one new name that is making the headlines today is Tim Krul from Newcastle.

The Blues manager faces a mini-crisis at the club with first choice shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois ready to leave the club for a move back to Spain at the end of the season.

Asmir Begovic, the backup goal keeper is also wanted back in his home country while AFC Bournemouth saw a bid of £10m rejected recently. But it is now understood that Conte is desperate to let Begovic go and is plotting a replacement already.

The likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Tom Heaton have been linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge recently but Conte has now got his eyes on Tim Krul.

The 28-year old Dutch international is a decent goal keeper who would walk into most Premier League teams but he was sent out on loan, back to his homeland at Ajax, where he has put in some sizzling performances already.

However, Krul is desperate to get back to England and is looking for potential suitors and it is now understood that Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are firm favorites for his signature.

The report suggests that Chelsea are 9-4 odds on favorites to land the 28-year old this month if they lose Begovic and it is understood that Conte is confident of landing him.

Betstars, a betting website has now slashed the odds on this move and are confident that it will happen in the upcoming days.

Most of the transfer gossip around Stamford Bridge has been focussed on the potential exit of Diego Costa,” a BetStars spokesman said.

“However, there’s one potential signing that has come completely out of the blue. Chelsea have emerged as the 9/4 favourites to sign Newcastle keeper Tim Krul with Asmir Begovic the subject of a bid from Bournemouth.:

“The chance to join the Premier League leaders is a no-brainer for Krul so we’re expecting to see a deal done before the window closes,” he added.

Courtois and Begovic have been excellent when called upon this season and it will be interesting to see who makes way for Tim Krul come the end of the season.
