USA-Ireland ODI Postponed Due To Few More Positive COVID-19 Cases

The ODI between USA and Ireland has been postponed by a day due to a few more positive Covid cases in the camp. The first ODI, which was originally scheduled on December 26, was cancelled after some match officials were tested Covid positive.  Now the rescheduled 2nd ODI will be played on December 29 and followed by another ODI the next day.

A media release by Cricket Ireland confirmed the developments. The players and all the staff members from both sides will undergo another round of testing on Tuesday.

COVID-19
USA and Ireland played 2-match T20I series earlier.

“The One-Day International in the Dafabet USA v Ireland Men’s International Series scheduled for tomorrow has been pushed back by one day to Wednesday 29 December, due to a small number of new positive COVID cases within the playing and support staff groups,” a Cricket Ireland media release said.

“All of the remaining players and support staff have undergone a full suite of antigen testing this evening, all with negative results. If both teams can complete an additional set of negative testing tomorrow, then the series will proceed with the amended dates of 29 December and 30 December. The final match in the series will remain as scheduled on Thursday 30 December which is a Day/Night fixture with a 2 pm start,” the release added.

Earlier both sides played 2-match T20I series which ended on 1-1. Ireland’s Lorcan Tucker played a blinder of knock 84(56) to level the T20I series. He also scored a fifty in the first match when Ireland failed to chase the target of 189

The three umpires who were initially deemed as close contacts to the one positive case in the umpiring group have now all tested negative, and these three umpires now await final ICC confirmation to officiate on 29 and 30 December.”

Following this series, Ireland is set to tour West Indies to play 3 ODIs and 1 T20I starting from January 8. The only T20I could be the farewell match for Chris Gayle. The legendary West Indies player wished to play his final international game in front of his home crowd at Kingston, Jamaica.

United States of America will take on Ireland in the 2nd T20I on Friday. USA created history by defeating a Test-playing nation in the 1st T20I of the series by 26 runs. A 110-run stand between Sushant Modani and Gajanand Singh for the fifth-wicket was one of the main highlights of the series opener. There is nothing to lose for them as they are already on the safer side and must aim for a 2-0 win.

Ireland, on the other hand, were all over USA in the powerplay, but later we witnessed a different version of them as they leaked plenty of runs. They couldn’t catch up with the required run-rate in the latter half and fell short of the target by 26 runs. They must win this match to level the series.

Nepal Rattles USA For 35; Becomes Joint-Lowest Total in ODI History

On Wednesday (12th February), Nepal registered their record ODI victory after bundling the United States of America (USA) for the joint-lowest total in ODI history.

It was the last game in Nepal ODI triangular series (Nepal, Oman and USA), which was the part of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. After winning the toss in the last game of this series, the hosts Nepal decided to field first.

Nepal took just 12 overs to strangulate their opponent USA, who managed to score only 35 runs – the joint-lowest total in ODI history. Apart from the opening batsman Xavier Marshall (16), all other batsmen failed to reach the double-digit scores in that innings.

In reply, Nepal successfully chased down that target in just 5.2 overs after losing both the openers. Though the openers failed in that tiny chase, Paras Khadka (20*) and Dipendra Singh Airee (15*) secured that easy victory without any further damage. It was their fastest run chase in ODI history.

Among the USA bowlers, only Nosthush Kenjige managed to pick up two wickets in his first over (second over of that innings).

Oman finished as the winner of this tri-series as they won all the four matches of this series and collected eight points. While Nepal won both the games against the USA in this series (four points), the USA failed to open the point account in this series.

Some crucial stats of the match: Nepal vs USA

i) The USA were bundled out for just 35 runs. It is the joint lowest ODI total in history, as Zimbabwe was the team which managed just 35 in 18 overs against Sri Lanka on 25th of April 2004 at Harare Sports Club.

Lowest ODI totals

Team Total (Overs) Opposition Venue Date
Zimbabwe 35 (18) Sri Lanka Harare 25th April 2004
