Michael Vaughan Impressed By Ravindra Jadeja’s Fielding

Michael Vaughan, former England captain seemed highly impressed with India’s ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. He shared a fleet of tweets on his official Twitter handle to lavish praises on the Indian star and named him as one of the incredible players in the cricket fraternity.

Michael Vaughan’s comments on Ravindra Jadeja came after the 32-year-old presented a stellar show in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday. Ravindra Jadeja is known for his agility and swiftness on the field and he gave a glimpse of the same during the match against Punjab Kings.

Michael Vaughan Tweets Favourite Fielder Is Ravindra Jadeja

On the fifth ball of the third over of the first innings, on-strike batsman Chris Gayle hit the delivery by pacer Deepak Chahar in front of the backward point and ran for a single. Ravindra Jadeja, who was standing at the same position, quickly collected the ball and aimed it to uproot the stumps at the wicketkeeper’s end.

This proved to be the turning point of the game as opposition skipper KL Rahul marched back to the pavilion after scoring 5 off 7 balls.

Following this, in the fifth over, Ravindra Jadeja took a stunning catch by diving towards the right to dismiss West Indies explosive hitter Chris Gayle. Impressed with his exploits on the field, Michael Vaughan tweeted that out of all the players, his favorite one is Ravindra Jadeja.

Ravindra Jadeja, regarded by many as India’s best fielder, produced two magical moments in the field to get rid of dangerous KL Rahul and Chris Gayle in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

The all-rounder first dismissed the Punjab Kings skipper with a brilliant direct hit and then took sensational diving to get rid of Chris Gayle. While KL Rahul departed for five runs, Chris Gayle could only manage 10 runs before Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliance sent him packing off Deepak Chahar’s bowling.

Michael Vaughan Tweets Ravindra Jadeja Is The Greatest Ever Fielder In India

He also urged the Chennai Super Kings and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to build teams around the all-rounder.  The former England skipper backed his statement with another tweet that stated that Ravindra Jadeja is the greatest ever fielder in India.

CSK won the game against Punjab Kings within 16 overs and the all-rounder played a crucial role in the win. Apart from his fielding, he also impressed with his bowling skills. In his four overs, the spinner conceded just 19 runs at an economy rate of 4.8.

Taking inspiration from his own fielding, Ravindra Jadeja then bowled a tidy spell, conceding just 19 runs in his four overs. He also took a good catch in the deep to dismiss Punjab Kings top-scorer Shahrukh Khan, who fought a lone battle and scored 47 off 36 balls, helping his side cross the three-figure mark.

Stephen Fleming : MS Dhoni Is Heartbeat Of CSK

Stephen Fleming, Chennai Super Kings head coach on Friday said that skipper MS Dhoni is the heartbeat of the franchise after the wicketkeeper-batsman completed 200 games in yellow-jersey.

In MS Dhoni’s milestone match, CSK registered their first win of the season as they defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets in a low-scoring affair at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

Stephen Fleming: MS Dhoni Is Undoubtedly Heartbeat Of CSK

CSK’s MS Dhoni has played 206 IPL games so far. 176 of those performances have been for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL while the remaining 24 has been for CSK in the presently-defunct Champions League T20. He played for defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 30 IPL games when CSK was banned in 2016 and 2017 for match-fixing.

“He has been absolutely the heartbeat of CSK, there’s no doubt about it. Whether it’s performances, guidance, or leadership… you run out of things to say about him. His longevity also has to be mentioned and appreciated… to play 200 games and still have a desire to do well and perform well is a testament to his attitude towards the game and the franchise. I think the franchise has grown and MS has grown with it, so it’s a very good relationship and great fun,” Fleming said at the post-match press conference.

Bowling first, CSK restricted Punjab to 106/8 in their allotted 20 overs after a top-notch effort by the bowling unit. Deepak Chahar returned with his career-best figures of 4-13 including a maiden over from his quota of four overs.

Stephen Fleming Praised Deepak Chahar And Backs Ruturaj Gaikwad

Stephen Fleming lauded the pacer and said his ability to swing the ball was excellent but his control and skillset are also very high.

“I’m really impressed with the way he bounced back after the first game. We felt within our group that the conditions transpired against us with a little bit of drizzle and the dew in the last match and we weren’t able to create any opportunities. So, the challenge was laid down to the bowling group on how they are going to operate a little bit better in today’s conditions,” Stephen Fleming said while replying to an ANI query.

“Winning the toss. I think it’s important to acknowledge. So, there was some assistance there. And without a doubt, when Deepak gets a little bit of swing and a little bit of movement, he’s one of the finest around. So, his ability to swing the ball was one but his control and also skillset are very high.”

“So, the key really is keeping them a little bit simple in his plans and just operating in and around the stumps because he’s so effective when he hits the ball swinging. Today was a great example of the skills he has. And as I say, great bounce back from probably a below-par performance in the first game,” he added.

When asked about any changes in the top-order for the next game, the CSK coach said, “I am happy with the balance we have got in the team. Ruturaj (Gaikwad) is a fine player. He got a good ball in the first match and very difficult conditions today (Friday). It’s wasn’t a 220-run wicket today. It was much different. Ruturaj was a player we showed faith in last year, and his talent came through. Our philosophy when we pick players and put them in the team is to back them. This combination (Ruturaj-Faf du Plessis) is simply that,” Stephen Fleming concluded.

It was a superb comeback for the pacer Deepak Chahar who struggled for form and fitness last season after a bout of Covid-19. Deepak Chahar delivered 18 dots in his four overs on Friday, and his tally of 4 for 13 was his best in the IPL. CSK will next play against Rajasthan Royals here at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

Stephen Fleming: CSK Will Back Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad

Stephen Fleming, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach has said that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be under no pressure for his place in the XI despite his two failures.

The young CSK opener was dismissed for five against Delhi Capitals and made the same score against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Friday.

Stephen Fleming: CSK Showed Faith In Ruturaj Gaikwad In IPL 2020 And He Will Be Backed In IPL 2021 Despite Two Low Scores

At a virtual press conference after CSK’s six-wicket win over Punjab Kings, coach Stephen Fleming was asked if the team management would look to make some changes at the top of the order in the wake of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s two low scores.

Stephen Fleming replied in the negative and said:“I am happy with the balance we have got in the team. Ruturaj (Gaikwad) is a fine player. He got a good ball in the first match and very difficult conditions today (Friday). It’s wasn’t a 220-run wicket today. It was much different. Ruturaj Gaikwad had also registered three low scores in his first three matches of IPL 2020 before he was dropped from the XI. He came back strongly towards the end of the tournament, registering three consecutive half-centuries.

Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a hat-trick of half-centuries in the last three games to amass 204 runs averaging 51 in 6 games after scoring 5 runs in the first 3 outings. He scored unbeaten 65, 72, and unbeaten 62 as CSK won the last 3 games but finished 7th in IPL 2020 and didn’t qualify for playoffs for the 1st time in IPL history.

Stephen Fleming: Performance From XI Encouraging After Defeating PBKS

CSK put up a dominant show against PBKS on Friday. After restricting the opposition to a paltry total of 106 for 8, they chased down the target with 26 balls and six wickets to spare.

Asked if Friday’s combination could be termed CSK’s best playing XI, Stephen Fleming said: “When you put in a performance like this, it is hard to argue. We have Lungi Ngidi, who has now become available. But he is only out in the next couple of days. We will see how he comes out of quarantine. The performance today from the XI was very encouraging”.

Stephen Fleming added that playing XI will also depend on the conditions, which are not straightforward.

Stephen Fleming explained in this regard: “Now it a case of really assessing the conditions. Everyone thought that there are going to be high-scoring slog-athons. But now there’s a little bit more out. So the team you pick and the tactics that you use (become important). We are really happy about that. We like the opportunity when there is a bit in the wicket. Really encouraged with the way the XI played”.
Earlier, CSK and PBKS both retained the same playing XIs from their respective last game, with the former putting the latter in to bat first on a fresh Wankhede surface.
Pacer Deepak Chahar castled Mayank Agarwal’s stumps in the very first over followed by Ravindra Jadeja’s outstanding fielding effort – a direct hit – inside the circle that ran out the PBKS skipper, KL Rahul.
Deepak Chahar was back to bowl the fifth over and there was no stopping the right-arm seamer who struck twice in an over. The bowler scalped his 4th wicket of the innings after Deepak Hooda chipped it into the hands of Faf du Plessis at mid-off.
PBKS batsman Shahrukh Khan fell just three runs short of his half-century after he tried to smack Sam Curran for a maximum, only to find Ravindra Jadeja in the deep. PBKS finished with a total of 106-8. Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali ensured CSK’s win after losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early.
Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 107/4 (Moeen Ali 46, Faf du Plessis 36*; Mohammad Shami 2/21) beat Punjab Kings 106/8 (Shahrukh Khan 47, Jhye Richardson 15; Deepak Chahar 4/13) by 6 wickets
