Sanju Samson Reveals An Impactful Suggestion From Virat Kohli

Rajasthan Royals batsman Sanju Samson has revealed an important suggestion from Indian skipper Virat Kohli changed his perspective of fitness. Samson is in a hot red form helping his team to two huge victories in the IPL opening matches. He was a man of the match in both the matches and scored two massive knocks of 74 and 85 runs against CSK and KXIP, respectively.

Rajasthan Royals sit on the top of the IPL 2020 table, winning both their opening matches. Skipper Steve Smith has also been in a good form. They have been stupendous with their batting, winning both the matches scoring and chasing 200 plus successfully runs on the board.

He really changed my perspective, my dedication towards cricket: Sanju Samson on Virat Kohli

Sanju Samson has revealed a conversation with Virat Kohli which changed his perspective towards his fitness and career. Kohli told him to leave aside everything and focus on cricket for the next 10 years because after that he won’t be able to play the sport.

“When I was in the gym with the Indian team, I was there with Virat bhai. I asked him what is his training routine and how he puts so much energy into fitness.I kept on asking him a lot of such different questions. Then he asked me ‘Sanju how many years are you going to play cricket’, so I said that I am 25 right now, and I can play for another 10 years or so,” told Sanju Samson.

Virat Kohli told me I can do whatever else I want after 10 years: Sanju Samson

“Then Virat told me, after 10 years you can do whatever, you can eat food from Kerala and whatever else you want to do, but you won’t be able to play cricket after these 10 years. So, why don’t you give everything, whatever you have, to cricket in these 10 years. So, he really changed my perspective, my dedication towards cricket. I was already very dedicated, but this made me further change the way I think,” Samson added.

IPL 2020: I Was Looking For One Big Hit, One Big Over: Rahul Tewatia On His Whirlwind Knock Against KXIP

Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Rahul Tewatia has revealed his thought process and mindset during his game-winning knock against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Tewatia was instrumental in RR’s win against KXIP after he came to bat at number four sport. Tewatia struck 53 runs off 31 balls, including seven sixes to his credit.

The southpaw was struggling at one stage as he had scored just 13 runs off first 19 balls. Sanju Samson motivated Rahul Tewatia:

Tewatia was under immense pressure when he failed to deliver initially, even strike rotation was turning hard for him. He revealed, he was just waiting for a big over and it came in Sheldon Cottrell‘s. He hit five maximums in the over to completely turn the game around.

“When I was not able to hit, I was under pressure, but Sanju told me that it’s a matter of one hit and I was waiting for that one hit,” said Tewatia.

“I was looking for one big hit, one big over and that came (when Cottrell came in to bowl the 18th over). I had the confidence that once I start hitting, I would be able to pull it off. I was looking for a game-changing over to close in on the target,” he added.

I was told to go and take on the bowlers: Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia has revealed, he was told to go all out against the bowlers since the beginning and this match was an opportunity for him to prove himself with the bat.

The Steve Smith-led team will face KKR at the Dubai International stadium. It will be RR’s first match away from the Sharjah.

Rajasthan Royals predicted XI vs Kolkata Knight Riders

Rajasthan Royals are highly unlikely to change their team in the clash against KKR. The team that won against KXIP will be most likely seen taking to the ground again.

Openers: Jos Buttler and Steve Smith

Jos Buttler couldn’t perform to his level in the first match of his IPL 2020 campaign against KXIP. He managed to score 4 runs off 7 balls and looked not so comfortable batting. He will hope to show his attacking prowess against KKR and is highly likely to start at his opening spot.

He will be partnered by in-form skipper Steve Smith. The captain has been in a form too good for the oppositions. He has scored two important knocks of 50 off 27 balls against KXIP and 69 off 47 against CSK.

Middle Order: Sanju Samson, Robin Uthappa, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia

Sanju Samson is the man of the hour with his incredible form. He scored 74 off 32 balls in the first match against CSK and then 85 runs off 52 balls against KXIP, winning the man of the match trophy in both the occasions. Robin Uthappa has struggled to find his form in the RR colours but will still be given a few more chances in the starting lineup seeing his previous amazing record in the tournament.

18-year-old Riyan Parag hasn’t been showing the same composure as last year and hasn’t been up to the mark with the bat, Rajasthan are still likely to make him start and give him a few more chances to work his way out.

A horrific initial display by Rahul Tewatia which he made up for in the latter stages against KXIP, ending with a total of 53 runs off 31 balls with 7 sixes to his credit. The decision of the coaching staff to send him up the order was criticized but turned out to be a great move. He will remain at his spot in the team for now.

Bowlers: Tom Curran, Shreyas Gopal, Jofra Archer, Ankit Rajpoot, Jaydev Unadkat

The bowling lineup is also to remain the same for the match against KKR. The Rajasthan Royals bowling line-up looks among the weakest of the lot. They have not been able to get many wickets for the team and have conceded in the excess of 200 runs in both their matches yet. Shreyas Gopal, Tom Curran and Jofra Archer are also good with the bat and give them their batting lineup the added depth.

Rajasthan Royals have been missing their star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is in New Zealand by the side of his ailing father who had been diagnosed with Brain Cancer earlier. Stokes’ arrival to the UAE is still in doubt, but his return would be a massive boost for RR.

Sanju Samson, looked like everything he hit went for six: Steve Smith

The game between CSK and RR was a sixes galore, also acknowledged RR skipper Steve Smith. Jofra Archer hit four sixes in the last over, Samson hit nine sixes in his inning and Smith was impressed by the duo.  For CSK MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis played some big shots. Smith said Sanju was absolutely incredible and he just had to give him the strike to run rampage.

“I think the last surge from Jofra was an incredible bit of hitting. Sanju Samson, looked like everything he hit went for six. MS smacked a few in the end, and Faf got going too, but nice to get a Win front of the RRs. Sanju was incredible, and all I had to do was give him the strike. This should give him a lot of confidence,” Smith told in a post match interview.

Jos Buttler to play as an opener for RR on returning, confirms Steve Smith

England wicket-keeping batsman Jos Buttler missed the IPL opener for RR to comply with the quarantine rules on his travel from England on September 17. Skipper Steve Smith says it’s hard for someone of his quality to take away the opening slot from.

“Jos is a quality player and we’ll see what happens when he comes back. Hard to take the opening slot away from someone like him,” said Smith.

Smith said the RR bowlers had to see to avoid getting hit in the straights as they were playing in Sharjah which is considerably a small ground. He appreciated the leg spinners’ bowling perfect lengths and told he was looking forward to playing at the Dubai International stadium which is comparatively bigger to Sharjah.

“It was important for the bowlers to avoid straight hits, and it was important to make him hit the back of a length. The leg-spinners were very good with their lengths – good on them. Dubai is a lot bigger, and I haven’t trained there, I just got here. So hopefully the boys are ready for it. We’re looking forward to it,” smith concluded.

RR are set to face KXIP in their next match of IPL on Sunday, in the same ground of Sharjah.

IPL 2020: My Game Plan Is To Stand And Deliver – Sanju Samson

Rajasthan Royals’ wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has stated his game plan for the IPL is to stand and deliver for his team. A thunderous knock by Samson of 74 runs off 32 balls including nine sixes and one four gave Rajasthan a superb start to the game where they made 216 runs. RR skipper Steve Smith also played an important inning of 69 runs.

CSK had won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Sharjah International Stadium. Faf du Plessis was the only big scorer for the Chennai based side, making 72 runs off 37 balls.  The Chennai based side have played two matches in the IPL 2020 now, winning and losing one each.

I think range-hitting is what the game demands in this generation: Sanju Samson

25-year-old, Sanju Samson was in the best of his form against CSK in RR’s opening match of the IPL. He told his game plan is to stand and deliver and if the ball is in the arc of his bat, every time his intent is to hit it hard.

Sanju also told he had been working on his fitness and strength during the lockdown which is paying now in his game. The competition with Robin Uthappa and Jos Buttler does not worry him as the final decision is for the coach to make.

“My game plan is to stand and deliver. If it’s in the arc I go for it, and it’s very important to keep the intent to hit the ball if it’s there to be hit. I’ve been working hard on my fitness, diet, and training, and on my strength, because my game relies a lot on power hitting” Samson said in the post-match presentation.

“I had time to work out in these 5 months, and I think I’ve increased that ability. Everyone likes to keep wickets (about Buttler and Uthappa as alternate options) and no one likes running around, but it’s up to the coach. We are happy to bring smiles on the fans’ faces and we hope to continue doing so,” Sanju Samson added.

Rajasthan Royals win their IPL opener against Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2020’s first game crossing the 200 mark was played in the Sharjah International Stadium yesterday between CSK and RR. Sanju Samson and Smith’s knocks gave RR the head start they needed, but with the middle order slumping quick pacer, Jofra Archer stepped up and hit 27 runs off eight balls which included four sixes against Lungi Ngidi.

CSK only had du Plessis bat for long and late three sixes from MS Dhoni in the death overs, got them a little closer to the score but they still fell short of 16 runs. RR are set to face KXIP in their next match of IPL on Sunday, in the same ground of Sharjah. CSK will face DC on September 25 in the Dubai International stadium.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has proved his worth, scoring 400 runs in the u-19 World Cup earlier this year and was eventually adjudged the player of the tournament. Another new signing, Robin Uthappa was brought form KKR and will be starting at the opening spot after Jos Buttler was ruled out of the first game to fulfil the quarantine rules due to his travel.

The absence of Ben Stokes will allow new signing  David Miller to act as a finisher in the team. In 79 IPL games, he has 1850 runs to his credit, at an average of 33.64.

Bowlers: Shreyas Gopal, Rahul Tewatia, Jofra Archer, Oshane Thomas and Jaydev Unadkat

Rajasthan Royals have Shreyas Gopal as one of their fine spinners in the team. The 27-year-old has performed exceptionally well and has 38 wickets to his name playing 31 games.  He is also a good batsman and has a strike rate of 120, making him a good finisher in the team too.

Another spin bowler in the team will be Rahul Tewatia, who has 14 wickets to his name in 18 innings in the IPL. He is also good with the bat and boasts a strike rate of 124.

Jofra Archer

He will partner with West Indies pacer Oshane Thomas who was brought last year to the franchise and played four matches taking five wickets.

The 28-year-old Jaydev Unadkat is a smart pacer who excels with his number of variations and slower balls. He has played 73 IPL matches and has 77 wickets to his name.

IPL 2020: I Would Not Play First Match For Rajasthan Royals – Jos Buttler In Quarantine

England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler landed in the UAE with his family on Thursday to join Rajasthan Royals to play the 13th edition of the league. But he will mist the first match of RR against Chennai Super Kings on September 22.

Rajasthan Royals on their official Instagram account posted the video clip wherein Buttler stated that he would complete the six-day quarantine. BCCI had allowed players flying from the UK to soon after join the franchise camp without following the mandatory quarantine period because they are already coming from a bio-secure bubble. But Buttler will follow full quarantine because he has arrived with his family.

“I’m unfortunately going to miss the first match for Rajasthan because I’m going to be doing my quarantine period. I’m here with my family, it’s great that the Royals have allowed me to have my family over, so it will be a huge help,” Buttler said in a video posted by Rajasthan Royals on Instagram.

Jos Buttler hopes Ben Stokes soon join RR team:

Another RR player Ben Stokes will also miss the first few matches because he is with his father who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. Jos Buttler, in the video, stated that he was hoping that Stokes would soon the team in the UAE.

“Hopefully,” he said when asked if Stokes will play the IPL. “Ben is taking some family time at the moment. Everyone’s wishes are with him and everyone’s thoughts are with him. Hopefully, we’ll have him here in pink at some point,” Buttler added.
