The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is the biggest professional Kabaddi League in the world. It is played in India with 12 teams participating in it. The inaugural edition of PKL was played in the year 2014. Eight teams participated in the first edition of the competition.
Jaipur Pink Panthers won the first edition by beating U Mumba in the final. More than 40 crore viewers had watched PKL in the first season. After the strong start, PKL decided to add four new teams to the competition in 2017.
The 12 teams that currently play in PKL are – Patna Pirates, Jaipur Pink Panthers, U Mumba, Bengaluru Bulls, Bengal Warriorz, Dabang Delhi K.C., Puneri Paltan, Haryana Steelers, UP Yoddhas, Tamil Thalaivas, Telugu Titans and Gujarat Giants.
With three titles, Patna Pirates are the most successful side in the history of the competition while Haryana Steelers are the reigning champions.
The format of the tournament is a round-robin format in the league stage followed by the playoffs and the final. in the league stage, each team plays against every other team twice. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs.
