Who Should Be The Opponent Of Goldberg At WrestleMania 38

WrestleMania 38 is Knocking on the door and no matches has been confirmed for the event yet. But we know that the former three times WWE World Champion Bill Goldberg will be on action at the event. Here we will discuss about who should be the opponent of Bill at WrestleMania 38.

With various media sources confirming the fact that Bill still has one match left in his contract and the match is likely to take place at Wrestlemania 38. However it has not been confirmed who is going to be the opponent of Bill at the grandest stage of them all.

Who Should Be The Opponent Of Goldberg At WrestleMania 38

Bill’s last Wrestlemania match took place at WrestleMania 36 where he defended the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship against Braun Strowman. Just a month before WrestleMania 36 Bill won the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship from the The Fiend Bray Wyatt at the Super Showdown pay per view event.

At WrestleMania 36 he dropped the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship to Braun Strowman and that was his last Wrestlemania match. He remained absent from WrestleMania 37. But he faced Drew McIntyre before the event in a losing effort.

Recently he had a feud with Bobby Lashley where he fought classically in two matches. The first one took place at SummerSlam pay per view event, in which he lost to Lashley. The next one took place at the Crown Jewel pay per view event in which he defeated Lashley. After that he has not been seen in WWE yet. But it is pretty much confirmed by various media sources that he will be back by Wrestlemania.

So who should he face at WrestleMania 38? One of the rumoured names to be his opponent at the grandest stage of them all is WWE Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns. It is definitely a possibility but it looks like Reigns will be facing Brock Lesnar in a title vs title match so we do not think this is happening.

There is another possibility between a match between Bill and Seth Rollins which remained a dream match for quite a long time. The match has been rumoured for years but it has not been granted yet. We believe at some point this match will take place. Maybe WrestleMania 38 is the stage.

Last but not the least, the former WWE Champion Big E is a big possibility to be the opponent of Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 38. Recently the former champion made a challenge for Bill and there is definitely a possibility of the duo facing each other at the grandest stage of them all. This match can definitely be a big boost for E what is future and this can be an excellent fit on the card of WrestleMania 38 as well.

Goldberg Reveals Which Wrestler He Hated

Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg who is a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion and a former three times WWE World Champion recently revealed to which wrestler he hated the most. He will that the wrestler he hated the most is the former WWE star Gillberg.

The recent WWE fans might not be familiar with the name of Gillberg. However, he made a forgettable appearance around 5 years ago during the feud between Kevin Owens and Goldberg. We need to talk about Gillberg here a little. During the famous Monday Night Wars between WWE and WCW in the mid and late 90s, WWE mostly relied on talents they created themselves, and WCW trusted on the wrestlers that were already stars.

Goldberg Reveals Which Wrestler He Hated

During the time WWE created the biggest names in sports entertainment such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Kane, Mick Foley and many other names. WCW on the other hand relied on the wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, Kevin Nash and others, in other words, wrestlers that were already famous.

The only wrestler that WCW created back in the time was Goldberg. The man was extremely famous during the time and the biggest answer to WWE. Such a gimmick was quite uncommon and naturally fans loved it. She had an undefeated run of 171 matches before it was finally broken by Kevin Nash, and that was also not clean. Goldberg was the only star that WCW created during the monday night wars.

WWE came up with the funny idea to answer Goldberg. They created a parody of him naming him Gillberg. This character became quite famous in WWE and it was quite fun to watch. The most mind blowing facts about him was, who was the longest reigning Light Heavyweight champion in WWE.  Fans always wondered how WWE Hall of Famer would have reacted to his parody.

WWE RAW – Eric Bischoff Thinks Goldberg Is The Hardest Man To Work With In Wrestling

Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff who was the former Boss of WCW recently talked about the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg and said that he is the hardest person to work with in the professional wrestling ring.

Goldberg was one of the fewest wrestlers actually created by World Championship Wrestling unlike WWE, the promotion that was famous for creating new starts throughout the ages. During the Monday Night Wars, WCW depended on some of the biggest names of professional wrestling back in the time WWE relied on new talents that they created themselves. And this strategy helped WWE conquer WCW in the famous Monday Night Wars.

But there are very few names that WCW created themselves. One of them were Goldberg who made his professional wrestling debut in 1996 in WCW. From the very first day he had been very impressive in WCW ring. He started an undefeated streak which continued for a tremendous 173-0 before it was finally broken by Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998. The undefeated streak of Bill was considered as one of the most iconic things ever booked in professional wrestling.

Eric Bischoff

The fame of Goldberg back in the time was reaching Sky. Even though he stopped wrestling after WWE bought WCW, he made his return to the professional wrestling in 2003 in WWE and worked for one year. After his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX, he went out of special wrestling and remained absent for over 12 years.

In 2016 he made his return once again. Since then he kept on making sporadic appearances. Being one of the best stars of WCW, it is a little harsh from Eric Bischoff to address him in such a way.

Eric Bischoff who was the former Boss of WCW recently spoke on his 83 Weeks podcast where he talked about the former WCW world heavyweight champion Goldberg and said that he is the hardest person to work with in the professional wrestling ring. He said;

“I think on a consistent basis, it would have been Bill Goldberg, not necessarily in a bad way. Bill was a very intense person, emotional, didn’t have a lot of experience, and was pretty uncomfortable in a pro wrestling environment when he first got there.

“As a result, you take someone with a very intense personality and a bit of a perfectionist who puts a lot of pressure on himself, but also lacking a lot of the experience and comfort that comes with experience, you get a guy that’s a little hard to handle, or sometimes, a lot hard to handle. But, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a thing.”

WWE RAW – Sami Zayn On If Goldberg Would Be As Famous If He Debuted In Today’s WWE

Former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn who is also a former one time the WWE NXT champion recently imagined Goldberg making his debut on today’s WWE. He gave opinion on if the WWE Hall of Famer would be as famous if he made his debut on today’s WWE.

Goldberg made his professional wrestling debut in 1996 and from the very first day of his debut he had been presented as an unstoppable force. In his first match he faced Hugh Morris who was later known as Bill DeMott and everybody thought this guy is nothing but a rookie. But WCW had bigger plans for him. He dominated Morris in that match and defeated him. It was the first of many back to back victories that were yet to come.

He went through a stunning one hundred and seventy one back to back wins in WCW before it was finally broken by Kevin Nash. During this undefeated run, he defeated all the big names of WCW including Hulk Hogan and Sting. He was the only find of WCW during the 90s and the famous Monday night wars.

During that time the WWE kept on trying to find new talents whereas WCW relied on big stars. Goldberg was the only big name that WCW created back in the time. But after the death of the promotion excellent run was stopped as well.

But it is a valid question if the former three times WWE world champion would have been as famous as he was in WCW if he made his debut in today’s WWE. The format of WWE back in that time and today is completely different. Even the most skilful and talented wrestlers cannot even get a break in WWE these days.

Goldberg

During the recent budget cut of the way we have seen over 70 wrestlers has been released by the promotion. Most of them were quite talented and had the potential to be top stars. So it is very difficult in WWE to become a top star nowadays.

Sami Zayn who is also a former one time the WWE NXT champion recently spoke to Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast where he imagined Goldberg making his debut on todays WWE. He gave opinion on if the WWE Hall of Famer would be as famous if he made his debut on today’s WWE. He said;

Goldberg

“Goldberg debuts today in NXT, is he going to be [the same] Bill Goldberg?” Zayn said. “My guess is probably not. Bill Goldberg had to fill a very specific vacuum that only existed at that exact time for him to be in the spot that he’s in.

“I hope I’m not taking a shot at Bill here by saying I’m pretty sure he’d be the first to acknowledge that this guy isn’t exactly known for his 5 star matches or anything, he’d steam roll through guys.

If he came around at a slightly different time when work rate was far more important, he might have been left in the dust or people might not have taken a second look at him. It’s so circumstantial.”

He was scheduled to win the Royal Rumble match and going to challenge world champion for the title at WrestleMania 37. Anticipated WWE Match For Goldberg Could Happen In 2022

Goldberg has competed in three matches in WWE in the year 2021 which was one more than what his contract demands. He lost to the former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble 2021 in January, and then took another loss to another former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam in August. Both these bouts were WWE Championship matches in which he came up short.

After a long time, Goldberg picked up a major win by defeating Bobby Lashley at this year’s Crown Jewel 2021 PPV event. In a previous interview, it was mentioned by the Hall of Famer himself that WWE used one of his matches from 2022 which leaves him with one single match in his WWE contract. The question is who will face the legendary name in that final match.

The beef between Riddle and Goldberg is something known to the WWE Universe which was even acknowledged by WWE in their documentaries. Now, the RAW Tag Team Champion noted that he still wants matches with the former WCW franchise and Brock Lesnar.

Riddle wants a one-off match against Goldberg

To be specific, he mentioned in an appearance with Cheap Heat Podcast that the chances of competing in a match with Goldberg are better than facing The Beast,

“I will say this, Bill Goldberg, I’ll be honest, I think I’ve grown on the guy. I think he’s grown on me a little. I think that match could probably happen. We both went to Saudi, we were both on the same airplane, and we bumped into each other quite a few times on that airplane.

I think we can get that match. I think we can pull that one off. No promises, but I’m hoping in 2022 we get Riddle vs. Goldberg. It will sell tickets. Out of those matchups, I see that one happening the most.”

While this would be one of the most unusual lineups for the WWE Universe, they’ll be happy to see Goldberg crushing Riddle on his way out of the company. This would be a perfect stage for him to head into retirement given that he’s almost 55.

Another dream match for Goldberg is being rumored to be against Roman Reigns. This match was announced to take place at Wrestlemania 36 but it didn’t happen as Reigns backed out of that show. WWE could also arrange this match, next year, given it’s a money-maker.

Goldberg Has Only One Match Left In His WWE Contract

There have been some speculations about Goldberg’s career in the WWE given he’s surpassed his prime, long ago. The fact that he’s still wrestling in his mid-50s, makes some of the fans irate. It appears that WWE is well aware of the fact and they haven’t renewed the contract of the legend. As a result, the legendary name is left with only one match in his contract with the biggest professional wrestling promotion.

As reported earlier this year, Goldberg was open about that his WWE contract getting ended through 2023. The deal was also revealed to call for two matches per year. Per that deal, he lost to the former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble 2021 in January, and then took another loss to another former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam in August.

Both these bouts took place over the WWE Championships which already ran out of Goldberg’s match-quota for a calendar year. But then WWE announced him in the No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere match at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia against Bobby Lashley. There was speculation on a special contract being signed for this Saudi Arabia appearance, or WWE possibly re-arranging the contract.

Goldberg’s WWE career coming to an end?

But in reality, WWE used one of those two 2022 matches for Crown Jewel 2021. Goldberg spoke with Ring Rules while being in the Kingdom for Crown Jewel, last month and he revealed during the conversation that he has just one more match left on his contract.

“I still feel as though I can wrestle, I still feel as though I can entertain,” the former WCW franchise player said of his WWE future. “After this match I have one more match on my contract, and that’s it. We’ll see what happens, you never know.”

Goldberg will turn 55 at the end of December who also commented on possibly teaming with his son Gage to take on the team of another father-son duo in Dominik and Rey Mysterio.

“Oh you never know, you never know what the next day brings,” he said. “So if people want that, we’ll see if we can give them what they want. You never know.”

As of now, there’s no update regarding WWE possibly bringing back Goldberg for next year’s Rumble or Mania season.

Goldberg Believes That He Silenced Critics At WWE Crown Jewel 2021

Goldberg has been meme material for a portion of the pro-wrestling fans who makes fun of his wrestling abilities, all the time. The fact that he is still wrestling in his 50s and wins championships in the WWE, eats up some of them since the company still books a legend like him in top matches. One of those matches went down at this year’s Crown Jewel PPV event, last month.

Goldberg originally returned to challenge Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at this year’s Summerslam in a mega match. Lashley hurt his leg and then hurt his son Gage, badly to set up the rematch at the Saudi Arabia pay-per-view event. It was also contested under No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere rules which went to produce a brutal contest.

Usually, Goldberg’s matches are short in lengths to cover up his growing age but this bygone Crown Jewel match was different from those. It took place in and outside the ring where the legendary wrestler had to give it all to claim a dominant win over the All-Mighty from Monday Night Raw.

Goldberg had a message for his critics

Following the match, Goldberg reflected on his experience while appearing on the CarCast podcast. He admitted that he hasn’t had the best of in-ring experiences in Saudi Arabia. But with the latest match, he’s completely happy and it goes to the point where he believes that it silenced his critics.

“I don’t have the best track record in Saudi Arabia. I’ve knocked myself out in a match, I’ve dropped The Undertaker on his head and this and that. I needed to redeem myself and I’m not happy with my performance but I’m satisfied with it to a point where I think it’s shut all these f*ckers up finally.”

This bygone match against Bobby Lashley summed up Goldberg’s wrestling schedule for 2021 and there’s no update is available on when he’d be back on WWE TV. Prior to this, he competed at Summerslam and Royal Rumble 2021, and on both these occasions, he came up short while chasing the WWE Championship. The veteran has never held the prestigious title in his career and who knows whether he’d want to go after that title upon comeback.

Goldberg Has Special Deal With WWE For Crown Jewel 2021

Goldberg was officially announced for WWE Crown Jewel on the October 4 episode of Monday Night Raw. Expect Goldberg to be officially announced for WWE Crown Jewel. His bout with Bobby Lashley is a big match that WWE wants to serve as one of the co-main-events for the PPV. The event already had a stacked card, but the former WCW franchise player has some of his own entitlements which ensures some big-time matches.

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio episode, Dave Meltzer talked about how Goldberg has a specific clause in his WWE contract regarding these Saudi Arabia shows. Every WWE star earns more in addition to his contract in order to travel to that event. But just like the other part-timers, The Myth makes a whole lot more money with such appearances.

Roman Reigns Booked For Multiple Matches With Brock Lesnar After WWE Crown Jewel 2021

Goldberg Has Special Deal With WWE For Crown Jewel 2021 31

Goldberg has a huge deal with WWE for Saudi Arabia

In fact, the amount is expected to be so big that WWE and Goldberg both were aware that they would be working for Crown Jewel. The legendary superstar has a lucrative deal with WWE for Saudi Arabia matches, and hence there was no way he will allow WWE to reschedule his match on RAW to pull up the ratings,

“The other match that is going to be there is Lashley and Bill Goldberg, because that one won’t be put on TV, because Goldberg does have a specific deal with the Saudi shows that is very lucrative and if you were gonna pull his match to put it on TV he wouldn’t be happy at all. That’s millions of dollars of difference.”

The Undertaker Is In Saudi Arabia Ahead Of WWE Crown Jewel 2021

Goldberg has already wrestled two matches at Saudi Arabia PPVs so far. He lost to The Undertaker in the first one at Super ShowDown 2019 but then defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt to win the Universal Championship in the second one at Super ShowDown 2020. His 3rd bout at a Saudi PPV will be at this month’s Crown Jewel 2021 against Bobby Lashley in a SummerSlam rematch.

Goldberg Has Special Deal With WWE For Crown Jewel 2021 32

Brock Lesnar is the most regular WWE Superstar who has worked in all the Saudi PPVs so far and reportedly received about $1.5 million for a single appearance. We assume Goldberg receives around $1 million for his singles matches in Saudi shows. Currently, he is obliged to perform one more year with the WWE under his current contract.
