Kevin Owens Looks Back At Winning The Universal Championship

The former WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens who is also a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion recently talked about winning the WWE Universal Championship five years ago.

It was the time when the authority was totally involved in the main event segments of Monday Night RAW. Seth Rollins was the guy that Authority hand picked two years ago and he was riding the stars. He already main evented Wrestlemania, he also won the World Championship.

But on that night when Kevin won the WWE Universal Championship, the authority had different plans. It was actually a fatal 4 way match to determine the new WWE Universal Championship which was vacated after the previous champion Finn Balor got injured. Four competitors were choosen via four no. 1 Contender matches. They were, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Big Cass and of course, Kevin Owens.

Big Cass was the first man to get eliminated. Next up was Roman Reigns whom Triple H knocked out with a Pedigree. The final battle was between Seth rollins and Owens. Seth was the authority guy whom Triple H betrayed and knocked out with a pedigree. Owens pinned him and won the WWE Universal Championship.

“My wife reminded me this morning that five years ago today something pretty cool happened. Then I got on Twitter and I saw a lot of people were reminding me of what happened there, as well. A lot of people remember it very well. Man, the last five years have been a roller coaster.”

“The highs are great, but the lows, sometimes, are really hard to take for somebody who cares a lot, and who is very passionate about this, like I am. I’ve been so lucky. I’ve had a really great career.

“I’ve had my wife, my kids, and my parents — who are all fantastic at helping me navigate through this. I’ve been lucky to have a loyal following along me for that ride,” Owens said. And that’s you guys, today, reminding me of what happened five years ago when I won the Universal Title. I figured this was a good time to say thank you.”

Kevin Owens Leaving WWE For AEW Is A Premature Idea

Kevin Owens has been receiving tons of attention for the past few days as he’s being touted to leave the WWE for All Elite Wrestling. He recently tweeted out the coordinates to Mt. Rushmore, the name of his stable with The Young Bucks and Adam Cole before coming to the WWE, indicating a potential move to the WWE. The Young Bucks also changed their location to: “There” to keep the rumor mill running about another future big signing by the AEW.

At the same time, sources posted updates about Kevin Owens’ contract with the WWE being over at the beginning of next year. Initially, he was supposed to be under contract with the WWE until 2023 which may not be the case. Even his best friend, Sami Zayn’s contract is up with the company in the near future.

Reports suggest that Kevin Owens’ WWE deal was restructured prior to the pandemic to give him a larger downside guarantee, while his staying in the WWE, was shortened. The current expiration date for his WWE contract is now January 31st, 2022. However, Ringside News has learned that any talk about the Canadian superstar leaving WWE is premature. He is still under contract and no talks can even begin with another company.

Kevin Owens is still very much with WWE

Check out what Steve Carrier of the source has to offer regarding the former Universal Champion,

“Kevin Owens is the hot topic right now, so here’s what we know. Any talk of Owens definitely leaving WWE for AEW is premature. There is still a bit of time and contract talks can change a lot. That won’t stop Owens from having a good time with the situation on social media.”

Kevin Owens and Happy Corbin were slated to have a segment during WWE’s return to Madison Square Garden, continuing their ongoing angle. But that segment was cut from the show. The company also trimmed a women’s tag team match from the bygone episode.

Ringside News asked around about the company’s decision to cut off the MSG show. They were told that “the behind-the-scenes explanation was cut for time.” Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard can come up with lots of changes for a show on short notice and that was the cause for the sudden change on the show. This has nothing to do with the rumors of the former Universal Champion possibly leaving the company.

Super Smackdown: WWE Cancels A Number Of Segments Featuring Top Superstars

WWE conducted a Super Smackdown from the historic Madison Square Garden in New York City, this week. As noticed on the show, the number of segments and matches was less than usual as they couldn’t fit everything on the show that they had planned. This explains why some of the superstars sent out frustrated tweets once the show went off the air.

It was noted by Fightful Select that a women’s tag team match was scheduled for Super Smackdown, but nixed due to time restraints. The match was to feature Liv Morgan and a partner vs. Carmella and Zelina Vega. There is no word yet on who was planned to be Morgan’s partner, or whether the match would be planned for next week.

It appears like the Naomi – Sonya Deville storyline was also nixed from this week’s Super SmackDown. Naomi was originally expected to feature in a match booked by Deville which never took place. There’s no word either on if this context was related to the tag team match that got nixed from the show.

Naomi and Kevin Owens pulled off Super Smackdown

Naomi was brought to SmackDown from RAW last month, but she is yet to wrestle and per the storyline, WWE Official Sonya Deville is too busy or occupied to deal with Naomi. Naomi continued the storyline on Twitter she started tweeting about Super Smackdown earlier in the day and even posted a backstage segment where she confronted Deville. She was again promised to have something for next week.

Fightful also reported that a segment with Kevin Owens and Happy Corbin was canceled from Super Smackdown. Their absence from this week’s show was noticed as the duo has been involved in storylines in the ongoing weeks.

“That segment was cut during the actual show, while a planned segment between Kevin Owens and Happy Corbin was cut from the program this afternoon,” the source noted.

Corbin appeared after SmackDown where he was beaten up by The Demon and then he lost to Drew McIntyre in a singles contest. WWE had a lot planned for this week but that wasn’t executed for some reason. Carmella and Live Morgan also tweeted out “….” and fans wondered what has been going on between the two.

Kevin Owens On The Importance Of His NXT Run

Former WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens who is also a former two time WWE Intercontinental Champion recently talked about his NXT run. He also talked about his importance of the NXT run during his previous days in WWE.

Kevin Owens started his professional wrestling career back in 2000 at the age of 16 only. He travelled all over the world of professional wrestling before joining WWE in 2014. You was one of the biggest stars in the history of Ring of Honor. He won almost all the possible championships in ROH.

Kevin Owens On The Importance Of His NXT Run

He was instantly treated as a main event star in the NXT and he spent one year in the brand. In 2015 he joined the main roster and he instantly had a feud with John Cena. In his first match he defeated John Cena at the Elimination Chamber pay per view event of 2015 and his victory was clean which was a huge shocker to the fans.

He also won the WWE Universal Championship at one time by defeating Roman Reigns. He was portrayed as a constant main inventor in WWE at one point. Currently he is playing a mid card role in Friday night Smackdown and he is going pretty well. Hopefully he will be pushed to the main event status soon.

Kevin Owens who is a former two time WWE Intercontinental Champion recently spoke with Darren, Daunic, and Chase where he talked about his NXT run. He also talked about his importance of the NXT run during his previous days in WWE. He said;

“It was really crucial because even though I was only there for a few months really – I was 15 years in when I got to NXT after signing with WWE, so I had a good bit of experience already.

“But NXT and the Performance Center, where you start honing your craft and learn the WWE way of doing things, that building and NXT as a brand, it’s all about developing skills and talent and giving them a new level of skill. Guys like Dusty Rhodes, and Robbie Brookside, and Terry Taylor – there’s so many great coaches there.

“So even there I was only there for eight or nine months, I really benefited from being there and learning from those guys so once I showed up on RAW, I went toe to toe with John Cena immediately. Those few months there were crucial in getting ready for that. It was very important to my career.”

Top WWE Star Fuels Up AEW Rumors As Current Deal About To End

Kevin Owens took to Twitter a few hours ago to fuel up rumors on his future with the WWE. With a change to his bio and a deleted tweet, speculations are all around that he could soon be leaving the WWE.

The Smackdown superstar tweeted the coordinates to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. He then changed the location in his Twitter bio to “Almost there,” which was seen as a reference to the Mount Rushmore coordinates. Those tweets have since been deleted. His Twitter bio and profile picture were also changed in due course.

It should be noted that Mount Rushmore is the name of a stable that Kevin Owens was in with Adam Cole and AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks in 2013-2014. Soon after, Owens ended up leaving the stable when he signed with WWE in 2014. Cole and The Bucks triple superkick-ed him to disband him from the group.

In an update to the situation, Kevin Owens’ WWE contract is reportedly expiring within the next 6 months. Per the reports of Fightful Select, the former Universal Champion’s deal with the WWE runs out in January 2022 and not sometime in early 2023.

Bobby Lashley Makes History As The Reigning WWE Champion

Kevin Owens’s WWE deal is no more intact until 2023

It was noted in the report that WWE restructured several contracts ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, and The Prizefighter’s contract was one of those deals that were changed. The restructuring led to the expiry date being changed to January 2022 and not in 2023.

Earlier to this, Kevin Owens stated during a spring 2018 interview with TVA Sports in Canada that he had re-signed with WWE for 5 years,

“Hopefully I do not see why I will not finish my career with WWE. I just recently signed a new five-year contract with them. I do not intend to go anywhere when my contract ends. If the WWE wants to continue, if I want to continue and my family is ready for me to continue, I do not see why it would not happen. If [my career] ends tomorrow, I would be very satisfied with the career I had as a professional wrestler.”

This interview was the reason that everybody thought that Kevin Owens was staying with the WW until 2023 but it appears that’s not the case. Storyline-wise, he’s not in a very good state, either on Smackdown. So it makes sense if opts out to leave the WWE and join AEW where several of his WWE colleagues are currently under contract.

Kevin Owens On His Approach To Wrestling In The Thunderdome

Former WWE Universal champion Kevin Owens who is also a former three times WWE United States champion recently talked about his approach to professional wrestling during the Thunderdome era of WWE.

The Thunderdome era of WWE will be remembered till the end of the world of professional wrestling. Just like every other sports entertainment shows, WWE was also forced to organise their shows behind closed doors because of the covid-19 pandemic that struck during the late 2019.

Kevin Owens On His Approach To Wrestling In The Thunderdome

In this period of time, sports shows took place behind closed doors as mentioned above, that means there were zero attendance during each and every shows. After a number of months, WWE went to their famous arena which is the Thunderdome, this time shows took place live and they added fake crowd noises. Because of which shows were a little bit more interesting to watch.

But everything apart, most of the times shows looked like liabilities to WWE and we got the worst RAW after Wrestlemania thanks to the covid-19 pandemic. There were not enough returns neither enough debuts. It was just not that fun. But finally the fans came back to the life shows from July and once again shows are fun to watch.

champion Kevin Owens who is a former three times WWE United States champion recently spoke with Darren, Daunic, and Chase where he talked about his approach to professional wrestling during the Thunderdome era of WWE. He said;

“For me, I was kind of lucky in a way because it took me a good 15 years wrestling on the independents before I got to WWE. For those 15 years, I ended wrestling in front of very small crowds sometimes, as little as 20 people.

Kevin Owens

“When we got into that setting where we were wrestling practically in front of 15 or 20 crew members and that was about it, it wasn’t that foreign to me to wrestle in front of a small crowd. What I did, I started using the camera crew, the tech guys, everyone, the announcers…I started using them as my audience because all of those guys have been with WWE for so long.

“I know that if what I’m doing is entertaining them in some way and those guys come up to me and say, ‘Hey, that’s good stuff,’ they’ve seen it all so I know that I’m putting out quality work and that the people at home are most likely enjoying it as well. That’s how I attacked it.”

Finn Balor On Which Wrestler He Wants To Team Up With

Former WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor who is also a former two times NXT Champion Finn Balor recently revealed the name with whom he wanted to team up with.

Finn Balor is definitely one of the most successful recent wrestler of WWE. In his two separated run in the NXT, he won the WWE NXT Championship two times in total. He is also the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. Indeed he is quite successful and also pretty famous among the fans as well.

But the only Glory he still could not achieve in WWE is the Tag Team glory. He even had the honour to hold the WWE Intercontinental Championship two times, but the only title he failed to achieve in WWE SD Tag Team title.

Of course he did win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2015 along with the Samoan Submission Machine Samoa Joe who is a former two times WWE NXT champion what as it is mentioned before he still could not achieve any kind of Tag Team championships in WWE yet.

The two wrestlers he named are Kevin Owens and his former tag team partner Samoa Joe with whom he has already won the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament in 2015. He said;

“That is something I honestly haven’t thought about once. Obviously, if [Samoa] Joe becomes available again, obviously, that’s a dream partner for me. We’ve had a very long friendship and long rivalry in the ring. You know, one of my great friends on SmackDown is Kevin Owens. So, if he ever needs me as a tag team partner, I’ll be willing to step up.”

Kevin Owens – Baron Corbin Storyline; What To Expect And How Should It Go – Analysis

The former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens has been involved in a storyline with Baron Corbin since last week. Corbin is currently involved in a unique storyline in which it is being shown that he is suffering from a financial crisis and he is desperate to get some money to earn his livelihood and his children.

So far this storyline is of course quite unique but there are some points but there are some terrible effects of this storyline as well. We have discussed briefly about the bad sides of this storyline in a different story which you can check here.

Kevin Owens – Baron Corbin Storyline; What To Expect And How Should It Go – Analysis 34

Kevin Owens – Baron Corbin Storyline; What To Expect And How Should It Go – Analysis

But the storyline can be resolved. The way it was presented last on Smackdown there is a serious chance of serving this storyline in a better angle as well. But we do not expect much from the creative team of WWE and we are not sure if WWE would seriously get something inspirational out of it.

Baron Corbin
Baron Corbin. Image Credits: Twitter

Before we talk about the potential outcome, let us discuss about the position it is standing on right now. Corbin apologized to Owens backstage and he said that he was in need of serious help. Owens felt bad and helped him with money. Meanwhile Shotzi and Nox hit Corbin accidentally and it knocked him out. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler stole his money and flew away. Owens tried to help Corbin but Ziggler and Roode was gone by then.

The only way to save it and make it inspirational is to turn Baron Corbin babyface now. Having him teaming up with Owens would be the best decision possible. Then slowly they go on to win the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. Owens changes Corbin slowly and turns him into a good guy and he finally recovers from his bad situation. This would be and inspirational storyline as well.

Baron Corbin

But this is not likely to be this storyline going. By keeping eye on WWE’s history, Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens would form a tag team but ultimately Corbin would betray Owens and he would remain a heel. This will give a bad message that if you help someone in need he/she will betray you anyway. But this is more likely to happen but we still hope Corbin remains babyface and ultimately it gives a good message.

WWE Smackdown Preview (16/07/21): Huge Six-man Tag Match; Title On The Line 42

Last week, WWE had announced that SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair will defend her title during the live edition in Houston which marks WWE’s return to the road. Bayley was originally scheduled for an “I Quit” match against Belair at the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view on July 18. But she is out of action with a torn ACL who could be on the shelf for 9 months.

Sonya Deville was about to announce a “suitable replacement” for Bayley at Money in the Bank, but she entirely scrapped the PPV title match. Deville then announced Carmella vs. Belair for this week’s episode of SmackDown. Carmella was awarded the match for her past accolades.

Liv Morgan, again interrupting Deville and Carmella as she accused Deville of playing favoritism. Deville then included in her announcement that Morgan will replace Carmella in the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, representing the SmackDown brand. Liv sent a warning to Carmella about cashing in the MITB contract on Carmella if she wins the title.

In more news from the situation, Natalya was announced to be the overall seventh participant for the MITB Ladder Match from the Women’s Division. This leaves only one spot for the female side to fill the lineup. Speculations are heavy that Sonya Deville might end up announcing herself for that spot which should be confirmed on this week’s SmackDown.
