WWE Royal Rumble 2022: The Undertaker To Appear; Champions Banned From Ringside

The Undertaker is likely to get added to the Wrestlemania festivities starting with WWE Royal Rumble 2022, next weekend. If the latest reports are to be believed then he will be present at the January 29 PPV event.

There’s no confirmed update is available on what the legendary superstars will be doing at the upcoming show. But PWInsider reports that it’s more likely that Taker is attending Royal Rumble 2022 just because his wife Michelle McCool is competing in the 30-Woman Rumble Match, that wife. So he will be cheering her up from the backstage area and he’d most likely be dodging any TV appearance.

It’s also noted that Taker is being brought to Royal Rumble 2022 in St. Louis because WWE will be filming material for Peacock and the WWE Network throughout that weekend. Taker could also be needed for some footage regarding his rumored Hall of Fame induction.

The Deadman has not appeared on WWE TV since his “Final Farewell” ceremony that was held at Survivor Series, back in November 2020. He recently attended WrestleMania 38 Ticket On-Sale Party held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, this past November.

In more news, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos have been banned from the WWE Universal Title match at Royal Rumble 2022. During this week’s Smackdown, the challenger for the title Seth Rollins claimed that The Usos is the only reason why Roman is still the champion.

Seth issued a challenge tonight for The Usos to face him and Kevin Owens, and if The Usos lose they are banned from ringside during the Universal Title match at Royal Rumble 2022. Roman raised the stakes by adding that if Seth and Kevin would lose, then Seth also loses his Universal Title match to which Seth agreed.

Then in the main event, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins defeated The Usos in a non-title match via DQ after WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns hit Rollins with a Superman Punch. As per the stipulation, The Usos are now banned from appearing at ringside for the title match set for Rollins and Reigns.

WWE Smackdown Preview (21/01/22): Contender’s Match; Seth Rollins Backfires

Royal Rumble builds will be the prime focus of this week’s WWE Smackdown as Seth Rollins seems to respond to a recent attack by The Usos. En route to his title match against The Bloodline leader, redemption is much-needed for her while the same goes for Naomi as she’s in need of a big win that will put her in the championship picture. Naomi takes on the champion Charlotte Flair in the potential main event of the night that takes place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Roman Reigns has completed 500 days as the WWE Universal Champion and subsequently surpassed Brock Lesnar as the longest-reigning champion with the concerned belt on WWE Smackdown. He won the title on August 30, 2020, at the WWE Payback PPV, by defeating “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat Match.

The Tribal Chief hasn’t been pinned or submitted in over 2 years as his last pinfall loss occurred during the December 2019 episode of WWE Smackdown. He claimed to be in a God mode during his confrontation against his next challenger Seth Rollins while the latter claimed that he’s the one who created Reigns and when the time is right he’d destroy him.

WWE Smackdown Preview (21/01/22): Contender’s Match; Seth Rollins Backfires 11

The Usos came right after Rollins for an attack but showing his cunning antics, he ran away from the ring. But then on Raw, the twins caught him off-guard following his match against Bobby Lashley. He was watching Lashley destroying The Hurt Business members at ringside as The Usos came from behind and planted him down with dual superkicks.

This was a stern message by the Bloodline members that they’ve been following him everywhere they go to make his life a living hell. On the other hand, The Monday Night Messiah is in desperate need to use his cunning brain so that he can overcome this numbers-game. Taking out The Usos would be the smart thing for him on WWE Smackdown if he intends to dethrone Reigns as the Universal Champion.

WWE Smackdown Preview (21/01/22): Flair vs. Naomi

Apart from this storyline, a rematch has been announced between WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and Naomi for this week’s episode. This rematch is being billed as a Championship Contender’s bout in which Naomi can secure a future title shot if she can defeat Flair.

WWE Smackdown Preview (21/01/22): Contender’s Match; Seth Rollins Backfires 12

Two weeks ago on WWE Smackdown, Flair defeated Naomi due to interference by WWE Official Sonya Deville. Naomi initially won the match by count-out, but Deville changed it to a No Count Out match but then this match was then changed to a No DQ match. It was after this that Flair pinned Naomi for the win.

Thus, the Deville vs. Naomi feud continued on WWE SmackDown with Naomi threatening to attack Deville in a backstage segment. Another WWE Official Adam Pearce interrupted and agreed that Naomi was right to complain about Deville interfering in her match. Hence, Pearce was the one to book this rematch between Naomi and Flair.

Royal Rumble 2022: Top WWE Championships To Switch Brands

In the absence of some top WWE Superstars, a lot of brand invasions have been spotted in time for Royal Rumble 2022. Brock Lesnar is back on Raw from Smackdown after gaining the WWE Championship back at WWE Day 1 PPV. Plus, Raw Superstar Seth Rollins is slated to challenge Universal Champion Roman Reigns for the title in a top match from Smackdown.

It is certain that WWE is forced to use the Monday Night Messiah on the blue brand in the absence of Drew McIntyre. But WWE also has some long-term plans with him as he could become the next world champion on the blue brand at Royal Rumble 2022, as per the recent reports. This will ensure that the Universal Champion arrives on Monday Night Raw.

Dave Meltzer revealed on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is planning to put the Universal Championship on Seth Rollins at Royal Rumble 2022. Brock Lesnar, who is set to face Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship, will retain his title. This indicates that Roman Reigns will go on to face Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 for the WWE Championship.

Big title change expected at Royal Rumble 2022

In more news from the report, Meltzer added that if Rollins ends up becoming the new Universal Champion, then the two world titles will switch brands. Rollins is part of Monday Night RAW and he will carry the red strapped belt on the red brand show. In turn, Brock Lesnar will continue his feud with Roman Reigns on Smackdown and thereby keep the WWE title on Friday nights following Royal Rumble 2022,

“I was kind of told it’s gonna end up where it’s supposed to be. So I wonder if that means they’re gonna switch belts, like the Universal belt with Seth goes on RAW and the WWE belt that Roman would end up most likely, I’m gonna guess but Brock would have, would be on SmackDown,” he added. Previously, reports also claimed that Seth Rollins was originally supposed to win the WWE Title at Day 1 while Roman Reigns was supposed to drop the Universal Title. The plans were changed as Roman wasn’t able to compete that night due to COVID-19.

Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins At Royal Rumble – Why Is It Happening

As it is known to all, WWE Universal heavyweight champion Roman Reigns will defend his title against his former Shield brother Seth Rollins who is also a former four times WWE World Champion at the Royal Rumble pay per view event. This is definitely one of the most anticipated matches of the event as well.

It has been reported by various media sources that that’s all it was a scheduled to win the WWE Championship at the Day 1 pay per view event. But the plans were changed later and Brock Lesnar was added to the match to win the title. The 5th WWE Championship of Rollins could not come into reality.

Roman Reigns Vs. Seth Rollins At Royal Rumble – Why Is It Happening

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 has been booked for quite a long time. And as of it stood right now, this match is happening at the grandest stage of them all. But it is only happening if the brand split come to an end at WrestleMania 38.

But why did suddenly WWE brought Seth Rollins to Smackdown even after he was drafted to Monday Night RAW recently? He is not moving to SmackDown, he is still a RAW star? Then why is he having a feud with Roman Reigns in spite of being a RAW star?

Roman Reigns

Currently SmackDown is suffering from A terrible roster issue. Except Drew McIntyre, there is literally no one who can challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship in any pay per view event. Of course they can crown Ricochet or Sheamus and the no 1 Contender but it would be too predictable. And on the other hand Drew McIntyre is out with a neck injury for now.

It was reported by various media sources that Jeff Hardy was scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns for the title at Royal Rumble. But the Charismatic Enigma has been released by WWE recently. And this is something that has remained the biggest issue of WWE the covid-19 pandemic struck the world of professional reference.

So, WWE had no other option but to bring in someone from Monday Night RAW to crown a worthy no 1 contender. Most of the big names of WWE are in Monday Night RAW right now. So it had to be Seth Rollins. And it is going to be a very good match, that we can assure.

Definitely the hardcore fans do not want to see inter promotional matches in a stage except Wrestlemania. The wildcard system that was brought in in 2020 had been criticised badly for the same reason. But right now the WWE has no other option left. And it looks like the brand split is coming to an end, so it should not be an issue for long.

Wrestlemania 38: Big Stakes For Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Reportedly Removed

The storyline around Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar was reportedly always directed towards Wrestlemania 38. But it went through massive changes after what transpired at Day 1 back on January 1 which was the first PPV event of 2022. Roman was taken out of the PPV card and thereby his scheduled title match against the beast as he was diagnosed with COVID-19 prior to that event.

Lesnar then went on to become the new WWE Champion which belongs to the Raw roster. Since both of them have become world champions in the WWE and reports still claimed that a match between the two has still been penciled in for Wrestlemania 38, many believed that a title vs. title match showdown could take place in April. But recent reports claim that this high stake won’t be there when the match actually happens.

Wrestlemania 38: Big Stakes For Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Reportedly Removed 27

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer answered a mailbag question about a recent segment where WWE hinted at the possibility of seeing a Champion vs. Champion match at Wrestlemania 38. This occurred after their SmackDown confrontation following WWE Day 1. However, Meltzer was told there are no plans to have both the belts on the line during the upcoming matchup.

Champion vs. Champion match not happening at Wrestlemania 38

The veteran source instead hinted that the segment was just done at the time because they both had the belts around their shoulder. So, WWE went ahead to tease it anyway whereas, in reality, the company won’t move into that direction for Wrestlemania 38,

“Lesnar and Reigns are going to have a match. I think we’ll have a lot better idea of what’s gonna happen after the Royal Rumble. But, if Seth wins and then Lesnar’s wrestling Roman, I would presume Roman beats him to win a belt back. Because Lesnar’s not going to be around long-term and Roman will be around every week.”

Wrestlemania 38: Big Stakes For Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar Reportedly Removed 28

The next bout between The Beast Incarnate and The Tribal Chief is targeted for the Biggest Event of the year and we’re likely to get a clear idea about the stakes once Royal Rumble 2022 passes by.

Roman will be defending his Universal Championship against his former Shield partner Seth Rollins. Rumors had that Roman could be dropping his title to Rollins and then go after Lesnar at Wrestlemania 38 for the WWE Title. Meanwhile, Lesnar will be putting his WWE Title on the line against Bobby Lashley in a dream match at Rumble and he’s rumored to come out of the show as still the champion.

Royal Rumble 2022: Roman Reigns Possibly Dropping WWE Universal Championship

It’s been 2 years since WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been pinned in a match on TV. Ever since his return back at Summerslam 2020, he was built as a top heel force in the WWE that’s similar to Brock Lesnar back in the days. The two were eventually supposed to collide in a huge main event match at WWE Day 1 which was pulled off.

Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 prior to WWE Day 1, which resulted in his Universal Title defense against Brock Lesnar getting canceled. Lesnar was then added to the WWE Championship match, thus making it a Fatal 5 Way match also featuring Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley. Lesnar would eventually go on to pin Big E to win his sixth WWE Championship.

It was teased on SmackDown, last week that RAW Superstar Seth Rollins would be challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at The Rumble. Recent reports also claim that the former Shield brethren may end up dethroning The Tribal Chief for the title at the upcoming show.

Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is planning to make Seth Rollins the next Universal Champion at Royal Rumble. Brock Lesnar, who is set to face Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship, is likely to retain. This indicates that Roman Reigns will face The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 38 and that match will happen for the WWE Title, instead.

“The plan for Day 1 was that Seth was gonna be the WWE Champion coming off of the show and Lesnar was gonna be the Universal Champion coming off of the show. So Lesnar is now the WWE Champion. Seth was going to defend the title on one of the WrestleMania nights and then Lesnar and Roman were gonna be for the other title on the other WrestleMania night,” said Meltzer. Rollins was reportedly set to win the WWE Championship at Day 1 while Roman Reigns was supposed to lose the Universal Title. The plans were changed after the latter was diagnosed with COVID-19. Now the big title change has been pushed back to Rumble, it appears.

He held the Universal title since Wrestlemania 2017 to Summerslam 2018 for 503 days. Interestingly, he also lost that belt to Roman Reigns, himself. The biggest criticism about that title reign was that Lesnar used to be a part-time performer during that reign.

Over that 503 days, he only defended that title on seven occasions: Against Samoa Joe at Great Balls of Fire; against Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, and Samoa Joe in Fatal-4-Way at Summerslam 2017, against Braun Strowman at No Mercy, against Braun Strowman and Kane in a Triple Threat at Royal Rumble 2018, against Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania before finally dropping the belt to Reigns at Summerslam 2018.

Reports also hinted that Rollins was scheduled to win the WWE Title at Day 1 but then plans changed and Lesnar went on to become the new champion. It was noted by The Observer that Rollins would go on to become the new Universal Champion and his WrestleMania 38 opponent would’ve been the Royal Rumble 2022 winner. At this point, Big E seems to be the favorite to win that match and face Rollins at the Show of Shows.

As for the top women’s title matches at WrestleMania 38, the original plans are Sasha Banks vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, and Bianca Belair vs. RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.

Lynch is currently scheduled to defend her title against Doudrop at the Royal Rumble. Doudrop defeated Belair and Liv Morgan in a number-one contender’s match on RAW, this week. Lynch interfered and took out Belair from the equation which opens up another potential rematch with Belair, a bout that is possibly going down at WrestleMania 38. This also makes Belair the current favorite to win the Women’s Rumble match to solidify her challenger’s spot to Lynch.

I would besmirch, indeed disparage my own contributions and accomplishments if I didn’t ACKNOWLEDGE this amazing achievement by the #TribalChief of the #IslandOfRelevancy. It has been, without question, a championship reign for the history books, including the single most declarative pinfall victory in the history of #WrestleMania main events,” Heyman wrote in his message directed at Roman Reigns.
