Reason Behind Sasha Banks’ Absence From WWE Smackdown Shows

Sasha Banks hasn’t been seen on WWE television since before SummerSlam 2021. She heavily featured in the hype leading up to the biggest event of the summer, but then she suddenly missed some back-to-back shows including that PPV event, itself. She was present during some of the recent tapings from the blue brand but no TV appearance was scheduled for her.

This has certainly kept the fans wondering about her whereabouts especially since WWE won’t be willing to keep a top star like her, out of action. But it appears the company has a good reason to keep Sasha Banks in her existing hiatus, at least for the time being.

Reason Behind Sasha Banks’ Absence From WWE Smackdown Shows 1

According to the reports of Wrestling INC, Sasha Banks is now medically cleared to compete (unlike the previous claims that she was medically disqualified to compete at Summerslam 2021) and has been present backstage at SmackDown shows. But WWE creative doesn’t have any storyline reserved for her, right now. So, until and unless, they are coming up with something, the former champion is likely to remain absent from Friday nights.

Sasha Banks waiting for WWE creative’s signal

To be precise, Sasha Banks has not wrestled since the August 7 WWE Supershow live event in Ft. Myers, Florida. PWInsider previously reported that the hope was that if all goes well, she will return to the road for WWE during the weekend of September 10, which was the Super SmackDown taping from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Despite the advertisements, the top star didn’t make her return.

Reason Behind Sasha Banks’ Absence From WWE Smackdown Shows 2

During the absence, Sasha Banks isn’t keeping herself, low-profile. Former WWE Superstar Kalisto took to his Instagram story, just a few days ago and uploaded a photo of himself with The Boss as they seemed to be training in a wrestling ring. They are good friends in real life as Banks and her husband have even gone on trips with Kalisto and his wife in the past.

It seems that Sasha Banks will be back in the ring just when she gets the green signal from the creative team of the WWE. At present, Becky Lynch will defend her Smackdown Women’s Title against Bianca Belair this Sunday at the Extreme Rules 2021 pay-per-view. So it is possible that WWE starts using Sasha again, once this PPV gets over.

Was Sasha Banks Present At WWE Super Smackdown At MSG?

Sasha Banks is absent from WWE TV since before SummerSlam. Following the return in July, she heavily featured in the hype leading up to the event especially given the fact that WWE was about to host a Wrestlemania rematch at the August PPV. But then she missed a couple of house shows and then got ruled out of the Biggest Party of the Summer for some unknown reasons.

There’s no update available on when Sasha Banks will make her return to TV but she was backstage at SmackDown last week. Then WWE kept on advertising her for this week’s Super Smackdown at the Madison Square Garden Arena alongside the venue’s official website, even hours before the show. The question remains whether she was in attendance at the show.

According to Fightful Select, Sasha Banks was around Madison Square Garden, but she wasn’t listed on the rundown sheet. She may haven’t made an appearance week on Smackdown but she made it to NYC for the company’s big return to the world’s most famous arena.

“Banks was seen around in Madison Square Garden earlier today, but was not listed on early on-screen rundowns of the show. We’ll work to see if that is slated to change as the show gets closer. Not everything that unfolds on-screen are always listed in these internal rundowns,” the source noted on their update regarding the former Smackdown Women’s Champion.

Fans are excited to see Sasha Banks on Smackdown

That being said, the situation is very much tricky around Sasha Banks as we wait to see her grand return on the blue brand. There’s no confirmed update is available on the reason behind her absence from Smackdown TV, in the first place. WWE only mentioned this hiatus due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ at Summerslam.

Sasha Banks Teased Potential WWE Smackdown Return Date

It will be interesting to see when Sasha Banks will show up, next. She is missed by her global fanbase and they eagerly want to see her on television. Now Becky Lynch is back on the rand as a heel champion and she will face Bianca Belair at Extreme Rules for the championship. So, it will be interesting to see in which dynamic The Boss comes back on TV after that heel-turn on Belair, back in July.

Sasha Banks Teases Potential WWE Smackdown Return Date

For some unknown reasons, Sasha Banks has gone to have another hiatus in the WWE since Summerslam 2021 PPV event. She hasn’t wrestled since the August 7 WWE Supershow and was then pulled from last month’s PPV event because she wasn’t cleared for action. No specific reason was given on WWE’s part about the absence while the exact reason behind her absence is still unknown.

While Sasha Banks has not been at any shows since Summerslam, she definitely was backstage at this past episode of SmackDown, according to Fightful. The report also noted they weren’t told about any current creative plans for the former challenger for the Smackdown Women’s Title. So for some rightful reasons, she wasn’t used on TV.

Previously, it was reported that the WWE Superstar is scheduled to return next weekend, which features the Super SmackDown taping from Madison Square Garden in New York City. While she is still being advertised for that mega show, Sasha Banks could be back a week after that episode.

Sasha Banks could be back within two weeks

Sasha Banks tweeted out “12 [glowing star emoji]” along with a video of “The Final Countdown” by Europe. Twelve days from that tweet will mark Friday, September 17, which could be when she’s returning to SmackDown. Meanwhile, speculations also suggested that the WWE Superstar was giving a nod to Daniel Bryan, who used the same song in ROH before he went to WWE. So it could be a hint for Bryan’s AEW debut that went down at All Out PPV 2021.

Sasha Banks Teases Potential WWE Smackdown Return Date 30

As noted, Sasha Banks missed the August 21 WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view and was initially replaced by Carmella in the match against Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Title. But then Becky Lynch made her surprise return, took out Carmella, and went on to defeat Belair for the title in just 26 seconds.

It was reported earlier that week that there was internal concern in the WWE over Sasha Banks vs. Belair not happening after the two missed live events in Carolina due to “unforeseen circumstances.” That rumors eventually proved to be true as the much-anticipated Wrestlemania 37 rematch was scrapped out. It might eventually happen but no timeslot is available, for now.

This falls in line with earlier reports which claimed that the taping would feature Superstars from both brands.

While superstars from both Monday and Friday Nights will be appearing on the show, there’s no word on if the red brand wrestlers will be appearing on this week’s Super SmackDown on FOX broadcast. At this point, the MSG and WWE’s official websites have the following RAW Superstars advertised for the show,

Interestingly, Sasha Banks is still being advertised to appear on Super SmackDown by the WWE and MSG websites. The former Women’s Champion has been out of action since mid-August for an unknown reason. She missed SummerSlam 2021 as it was later noted that WWE officials were hopeful to get her back in action this week for the MSG taping. There’s still no confirmed update on her appearance while other names advertised for the show include Rey Mysterio, Kevin Owens, and WWE Intercontinental Champion King Shinsuke Nakamura.

The Undertaker is also being rumored to make an appearance on Super SmackDown via a video on the tron as WWE is likely to bring a tribute to the 9/11 incident as the event marks two decades, this week. However, nothing is confirmed in this regard, as well.

Update On Sasha Banks’ WWE Return Following Summerslam 2021 Absence

Sasha Banks was scheduled to face Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2021. This would have marked the much-anticipated rematch between the two from Wrestlemania 37 Night One main event but that didn’t happen. Prior to the biggest event of the summer, news broke out about the challenger for the title is off the show for some unknown reasons.

As previously reported, Sasha Banks was not at the Footprint Center for SmackDown that was the go-home edition for Summerslam 2021. Plus, she and Bianca Belair also missed the previous weekend’s non-televised WWE Supershow live events. WWE had said that they missed the shows due to “unforeseen circumstances” as they continued to promote the scheduled match for the PPV.

WWE hasn’t since provided any update or the reason behind Sasha Banks’ current absence from TV. According to PWInsider, she isn’t cleared to compete and isn’t expected to return on SmackDown,

“Banks was not on the road for WWE this past weekend and unless there is a last-minute change, we are told she will not be returning this week, either.”

But the expectation is that Sasha Banks will return to the road for WWE during the weekend of September 10, which would be the Super SmackDown taping from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

That being said, WWE officials are hopeful that The Boss will be back in action by mid-September. As noted, she is currently not cleared to compete for an unknown reason. She has not wrestled since the August 7 WWE Supershow live event in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Goldberg Says The Future Of WWE Is Bright, Praises Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Ricochet and Big E

The former three times WWE World Champion Goldberg who is challenging Bobby Lashley for the WWE championship at SummerSlam recently said WWE has a bright future. She also praised the likes of Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Ricochet and Big E.

With every WWE fan who are losing hope with the promotion, WWE Hall of Famer is trying to look at the brighter side of the promotion. With WWE not being able to book good storylines and proper feuds even after having a house full of talented individuals, fans are losing hope on the promotion.

A lot of WWE fans have already switched to their newest Rival promotion, the AEW because of the mentioned errors. It did not remain as engaging as it used to be. A lot of critics and fans have already started to say that Vince McMahon is killing the promotion with his terrible ideas.

But there are of course some bright sides of the promotion as well like it has the most talented roster in the world of professional wrestling. Indeed, WWE has the most talented individuals working under them. If utilised properly they can carry the promotion for ages.

Goldberg who is a former three times WWE World Champion recently spoke with WWE India where he said WWE has a bright future. She also praised the likes of Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Ricochet and Big E. He said;

“You know, I think it’s been written a number of times about my respect for Big E, that I have. I got to say that Ricochet is one of the most talented talents that I’ve ever seen, in any profession, not just the wrestling business.

Goldberg

“The things that he can bring to the ring… Sasha Banks, what she can do is unbelievable. There are so many Superstars that are on the cusp of greatness right now. Becky Lynch, see what she does, obviously she’s kind of a part-timer sometimes. It’s hard to really put people in a perfect category that describes their job description.

“But there is a plethora of talent coming up through the ranks in the WWE. Keith Lee, the kid is a monster. There are so many that I can only list those few, because there are so many that are right behind them. But I think it’s a fresh time for the wrestling business, and a fresh time for the WWE to pull to the front and center of the business.”

Sasha Banks On Main Eventing WrestleMania 37

WWE star Sasha Banks who is a former six times WWE Women’s champion recently expressed her happiness on main eventing WrestleMania 37. Banks featured on the main event of night 1 of WrestleMania 37 along with Bianca Belair where they fought for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Women featuring on the main event of the biggest event of WWE and professional wrestling is definitely a huge deal. There was a time when WWE looked at women as only sex objects, and today they are featuring on the main event of the biggest event of professional wrestling.

Sasha Banks
Sasha Banks. Image Credits: Twitter

Sasha Banks On Main Eventing WrestleMania 37

But this was not the first time that women featured on the main event of the grandest stage of them all. The first WrestleMania that hold the historical record of featuring women on the main event of the show was WrestleMania 35 where WWE Raw Women’s Championship and WWE SmackDown women’s Championship both were on the line, Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch created history when they fought for all the titles in a triple threat match in the main event of WrestleMania 35.

But Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair actually created history because it was the first ever one on one match to feature on the main event of Wrestlemania. So this match was historic definitely, and it was a huge honour for both individuals.

Sasha Banks who is a former six times WWE Women’s champion recently appeared on Rasslin with Brandon F. Walker where she expressed her happiness on featuring of the main event on WrestleMania 37. She said;

“To main event WrestleMania, that was my biggest, biggest, biggest dream, so big that I didn’t even think it was possible. You would never think that as a woman in WWE or as a woman in general that you would be in the headline, main eventing, Wrestle Frickin Mania.

Sasha Banks

“To go out there and wrestle in front of a crowd when we hadn’t been in front of them for a year in a half. To get the reception we did and to deliver and kill it and to have people still talk about that match, it’s the best feeling in the world.

“To go home, leaving people happy and saying ‘that was the match of the night, that was the main event, male or female, period. That was just the greatest.’ That’s something we’re going to remember for the rest of our lives.”

Why Bianca Belair Should Drop The Title To Sasha Banks At Summerslam – Analysis

WWE SmackDown Women’s champion Bianca Belair will defend her title against the former champion Sasha Banks at SummerSlam and the match will be a rematch from WrestleMania 37. At WrestleMania 37 Sasha Banks defended her title against Bianca and she dropped the title. Since then Bianca is holding the title firmly.

Since WrestleMania 37, Bianca defended her title against several stars, and in every title defense she came out successful. She is doing quite well with the title, but with a fragile roster in Friday night Smackdown there is not enough option for her to defend the title against different stars.

Why Bianca Belair Should Drop The Title To Sasha Banks At Summerslam – Analysis

As mentioned above this is the second match between the two wrestlers and this time the buildup of the match is way better than their match from WrestleMania 37. With the heel turn of Sasha Banks the feud became even more appealing and with Bianca looking more dominant than before, without any doubt their SummerSlam match would be bigger than their Wrestlemania match.

Bianca Belair
Bianca Belair. Image Credits: Twitter

But Bianca retaining the Championship at SummerSlam would not be a very good look for either of the wrestlers. There are a number of reasons why she should drop the title now.

The first reason is, if he wins once again, she will now be overpushed, and WWE should not risk overpushing another star. She already had a successful feud win over Bayley, if she beats Sasha once again, this would not be a good look for either of the wrestlers.

Bianca Belair
Bianca Belair. Image Credits: Twitter

Besides, the women’s roster in SmackDown is extremely fragile. If Bianca beats Sasha again and retains the title, there would be no legit competition remain for her. WWE would have to forcefully bring some number one Contender like they brought Carmella. Most of the good stars that SmackDown had are released. So there is no other competition remaining.

So the only way to keep this title feud going is to crown Sasha Banks the new champion. Bianca should not be overpushed. WWE fans can get over on any wrestler very easily if he or she keeps winning.

The same thing happened with Charlotte Flair as well. So in this case WWE should not risk it. Bianca Belair is a tremendously talented wrestler, overpushing can also kill her whole momentum.
