Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa hit the headlines for bowling one of the best deliveries in his cricketing career. The crafty leg-spinner bowled a sensational googly to get rid of New Zealand’s best batsman Kane Williamson during the first ODI of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday (13th March).

The incident happened in the second ball of the 20th over when the leg-spinner Adam Zampa produced a mind-boggling delivery to outsmart Kane Williamson. Zampa bowled outside the off-stump which tempted the batsman a long way forward. However, confused Williamson hesitated to middle the ball and before he could actually think of playing the ball, the ball made a mess of his stumps.

Zampa has proved again why he is a crafty leg-spinner as he tricked Kane Williamson at the best scene. The leg-spinner also bagged the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme (25) after he showed some resistance, but New Zealand were bundled out for 187 in 41 overs, only to lose by 71 runs. Adam Zampa ended up with 2/50 in eight overs.

Talking about the match, David Warner, Aaron Finch and Marnus Labuschagne hit half-centuries apiece in Australia’s 71-run win over the visitors. Chasing a target of 258, New Zealand lacked enough teeth in the run-chase. When left-handed opener Henry Nicholls was dismissed in the 10th over, they were struggled to score runs as they could add just 28 on the board.

To make things worse for the Black Caps, Adam Zampa’s sensational delivery tricked Kane Williamson in the 20th over that saw the visitors at 64 for the loss of two wickets. Soon after that, wickets fell like a pack of cards. Tom Latham and Colin de Grandhomme scored 38 and 25 respectively, but that wasn’t enough for the visitors to pull off the big deal as New Zealand were bundled out for 187 in 41 overs.

New Zealand’s poor patch on the Australian soil continues once again. A few months ago, they were whitewashed (3-0) by Australia in the away Test series. The second match of the ongoing ODI series will be played in the same venue on Sunday (15th March).
