South African cricketer Imran Tahir was born in Lahore, Pakistan. He learned the cricket from his birthplace and played for Pakistan U-19 and Pakistan A side but failed to get his place in the national cricket team. The spinner started playing county cricket and from there he switched his base to South Africa. He went on to became the top-notch spinner for the Proteas and dominated the ground for many years.
Tahir has also featured for several T20 franchises across the globe. He has also represented Multan Sultan in PSL. In IPL, he is a prominent player for Chennai Super Kings and has enjoyed immense success under MS Dhoni‘s captaincy.
Imran Tahir disappointed to not play for Pakistan:
Sharing his experience of playing in Pakistan, Imran Tahir credited his early days in his home nation for his success in cricket. Though he shared his disappointment that he was not able to represent Pakistan at the International level.
“I used to play cricket in Lahore and it played a significant role in my progression as a cricketer. I played most of my cricket in Pakistan but did not get an opportunity here, for which I am disappointed,” Tahir said as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.
Tahir credits his wife for his long career in South Africa:
Imran Tahir praised his wife Sumayya Dildar for supporting him during his difficult times when he was not able to make build his place in Pakistan.
“Leaving Pakistan was a difficult decision but most of the credit for playing for South Africa goes to my wife,” he further mentioned.
Imran Tahir last played for the Proteas in World Cup 2019 since then, he has not featured for the team. Currently, he is enjoying the break at his home. He might make himself available for the Indian Premier League(IPL) later this year scheduled in UAE.
