Kane Williamson Picks Virat Kohli as World’s Best Batsman Across Formats

The five-match T20I series and three-match ODI series between New Zealand and India have been done and dusted. India won the T20I series by 5-0 and New Zealand bounced back to win 3-0 in ODIs. The focus shifts to the two-match Test series and the first of which is scheduled to be played at Basin Reserve in Wellington on February 21 (Friday).

Ahead of the Test opener, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson named the best batsman in the world across formats. Without a second thought, Kane picked Indian captain Virat Kohli as the best all-format batsman in the world.

It appears that all the batting records would be registered by the name of Virat Kohli. He is the only player who averages over 50 in across formats.

His statistics speak huge volumes that he is one of the best in this modern era.  He is also the only player who gets compared with all-time batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar by several cricket experts.

Kohli, who has held the first position in ICC Test and ODI rankings for a long time has scored 11867 runs in ODIs on the back of 43 centuries and 7,202 runs in Test matches with the help of 26 centuries and seven double tons.

Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli have mutual respect:

Both Williamson and Kohli share a great deal of camaraderie on and off the field. The best moment during ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand came when both captains, who were not part of the playing XI for the fifth T20I at Mount Maunganui, were seen having a candid chat on the sidelines for a long time.

“It was really interesting the other day, sought of sit-down and have a quiet chat on the out-field and share a lot of thoughts that we had and a lot of similar views on the game and inside different approaches which was really refreshing and was quite inspiring as well,” Williamson added.

“Obviously, Virat is the best, one-off, without a doubt in all formats but they are a quality side and leading the World Test Championship,” said Williamson on the eve of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Kohli and Williamson know each other since their early days of international cricket as they both led their teams respectively in the U19 World Cup in 2008, in which India came out on top.

“I have always admired Virat in a lot of ways. We have to go quite a long way back really to Under-19s and have played against each other in different competitions as well, obviously in international arena, in the IPL and I have always admired Virat in a lot of ways setting benchmarks in international games is pretty obvious with his standard that he sets,” Williamson signed off.
