Saina Nehwal defeated Tee of Malaysia in three sets 21-10,19-21 and 21-19 in the second round match of China Masters Super Series played in China earlier today. It was an excellent performance by Tee, but Saina Nehwal held her nerve to progress into the quarter-finals.
In the first game, Saina started off to a great start taking a 3-0 lead and continued to dominate the Malaysian player. Saina played some aggressive badminton. At the interval, Saina led 11-3. After the interval, Saina continued her aggressive play and did not allow Tee to come back into the game and won the first set 21-10.
In the second game, both players took alternate points to equal at 2-2. Saina then took a 4-2 lead and continued to maintain the lead at 7-4. Tee came back into the game and took 4 successive points for an 8-7 lead. Saina then took 4 successive points to lead 11-8 at the interval. After the interval, Tee played some aggressive badminton and equaled the score at 11-11 and then took the lead. Tee was 15-13 up and then Saina came back to take 2 points to level the score at 15-15. The match was neck to neck as both players took alternate points to equal at 17-17. Saina then took the lead at 18-17, but Tee again took the lead at 20-18. Tee won the second game 21-19.
In the deciding game, Tee started off to an aggressive start taking a 6-4 lead. Both players fought for each point. At the interval, Tee led 11-10. After the interval, the fight for each point continued as Tee was leading 12-11. Saina showed her character and held her nerves to win the third set 21-19 to progress into the quarterfinals of China Masters Super Series.
She will face Okuhara in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
