IPL: Five Players Delhi Daredevils Should Retain In The Next Season

After the completion of the 10th edition, the BCCI has opted for a fresh start. The 2018 auctions are going to be one grand auction as all the players find themselves in the pool. But, there is a twist to it, each team may be allowed to retain up to four or five names just like the 2011 and 2014 auctions.

This certainly gives a ray of hope for Franchises like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers who possess high-quality superstars in their ranks. However, with teams like Delhi Daredevils, which is filled with promising names and established players, they will face a tricky time deciding who to retain and drop.

Here in this piece. Let’s discuss a few probable players whom DD might think of retaining ahead of the next auctions.

Chris Morris

Every team needs good all-rounders and Delhi Daredevils a bunch of good ones. South Africa’s Chris Morris is one such all-rounder whom DD would not like to lose. He is still at the peak of his game and can effectively contribute as a batsman and as a bowler. There is still time before Morris could be written off as an exhausted cricketer. As of now, he fits in the Delhi Daredevils squad perfectly and adds a lot of value to the franchise.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant was the revelation of 2017 for Delhi Daredevils. Not retaining him would be a grave mistake as he has shown immense worth already which may trigger a bidding war among other franchise. He is just 19-year-old offers a great wicket-keeper batsman’s option for the team. With 366 runs in 14 matches, Pant has already announced that he belongs to the highest level. Therefore, DD should never ever consider leaving him out ahead of the fresh auctions.

Mohammad Shami

Fast bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan bid adieu to the IPL this season. This leaves Delhi without a bowling spearhead. Fortunately, they do not have to look far away for replacement with Mohammad Shami, Team India’s most bankable speedster, present in the squad. Fitness, however, remains the only concern. The last couple of season were quite underwhelming for him mainly due to injuries. But, if he manages to stay in good shape, DD can count on his name.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rababa, South Africa’s rising young sensation, is another promising youngster. Delhi Daredevils entire team revolves around youth and therefore they would like to retain him. Apart from the age factor, he has all the qualities to support Shami or even the lead the DD pace attack from next season. The playing conditions might be a challenge but for a bowler who is touted capable enough to replace Dale Steyn in the Proteas attack, it shouldn’t be a huge worry.

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins will be another star who should be retained by DD. Cummins effectively combines pace and wicket taking abilities with some handy lower order batting capabilities. The 24-year-old has been one of the most consistent names in the Australian setup at the international level and had a successful 2017 season in the IPL as well. He featured regularly in the XI and ended up with 15 wickets in 12 matches apart from a couple of attractive cameos. Delhi Daredevils will benefit by keeping him by their side.
