Ambati Rayudu‘s maiden ODI ton ensured that India cruise home by 6 wickets in the second ODI at Ahmedabad and take an unassailable lead over Sri Lanka in the 5 match ODI series. Chasing a decent total of 275 in 50 overs, Ambati Rayudu and Shikhar Dhawan made sure that there are no hiccups in the run chase. The duo joined together after the fall of Ajinkya Rahane, who was dismissed for 8, courtesy some brilliant fielding from Mahela Jayawardene off the bowling of Dhammika Prasad. 

Dhawan and Rayudu started slowly and put together a 121 ball 122 for the second wicket that proved to be the difference for India. Dhawan got out to a loose shot played against Seekukuge Prasanna for a well-made 80 ball 79 that included 7 fours and a lone six. Rayudu, then joined skipper Kohli at the crease. This partnership uped the ante for India as the duo smashed the Lankan bowlers to all parts of the ground. They put on 116 runs in just over 100 balls before Kohli fell one short of his 32d half century off 44 balls with two boundaries and sixes each.

In the meantime Rayudu reached his milestone with a single off Thissara Perera. Raina replaced Kohli, scored a four and six before getting out to Prasanna. In the end, Rayudu maintained his cool and finished off is innings with a 118 ball 121. Prasanna was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with a figure of 3-53 in 7.3 overs.

Earlier, choosing to bat, Angelo MAtthews‘ 92 and Kumar Sangakkara’s 61 propelled them to 274-8 in the 50 overs. Ambati Rayudu was named as the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock. With this knock, Rayudu has almost booked a place for the World Cup which is just 99 days away. The third ODI takes place in Hyderabad on Sunday.
