The World T20 Chmapions and Asian Champions, Sri Lanka has clinched the Gold medal in the Asian games Cricket event for 2014 by beating Afghanistan, after entering the finals through Coin Toss in rain destroyed semis against Bangladesh.

After winning the toss Sri Lanka elected to bat. Despite of lossing Tharanga early, Sri Lankans didn’t panic with Captain Thirimanne and Chandimal leading them to a good score. They both shared a stand of 72 runs in 54 balls before Chandimal departed for a well made 33 off 27 balls. Soon in the next over Thirimanne was too sent back as he tried to score quickly after he played an aggressive knock of 37-ball 57. All of a sudden the Afghanistan bowlers Nabi and Naib started to strike the Sri Lankans as the batting team collapsed from 100 for 3 in 14th over to 133 all out failing to play out 20 overs.

A great opportunity to win Gold, Afghanistan needed just 134. Opener Tarakai started with a couple of boundaries and begin the chase well. But Sri Lankan weren’t going to give away the chance as they two wicket maiden put a huge pressure on Afghanistan as they fell from 20 for no loss after 3 overs to 20 for 3 in 5 overs. After that blow, the Afghan never looked to comeback as they kept lossing wickets. Mendis ran through the Afghanistan tail and they were bundled out for just 65 lossing by 68 runs and ended with Silver medal.

Sri Lanka: 133 all out in 19.1 overs (HDRL Thirimanne 57, LD Chandimal 33; M Nabi 4/18, G Naib 2/16) beat Afghanistan: 65 all out in 17.4 overs (N Tarakai 17, Q Khan 12; MNAJ Mendis 3/13, PC de Silva 2/20) 68 runs
