In World Cup history, the associate nations mostly have been beaten the major sides. The associate nations does not get enough chances to play at highest level but when they get to play at the World Cup they have the ability to upset major teams. In World Cup 2015 5 associate nations are participating in the tournament. Here we look the prospects of these teams in this World Cup.

1. Ireland –

Ireland is, arguably, the best associate nation of all playing in this World Cup. In 2007, they had beaten Pakistan in the group stage thus knocking them out of the World Cup in the first round itself. They had defeated England in the group match at the Chinaswamy Stadium in Bangalore chasing a huge score.

This team has some match winners which can change the course of the match. Kevin O Brian is one the dangerous batsmen that Ireland has. With West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Zimbabwe in their group they can defeat any one of team on their day.

2. Scotland –

Scotland is a team that has participated in the World Cup 2 times. Their first participation came in 1999 when they finished last and in 2007 where they finished 15 out of 16 teams. They participated in T-20 World Cups also 2 times.

Though much cannot be expected from this side as they are in Group A consisting of England, Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan they cannot be counted out. They will be looking to put a good show at least of stretching them to the limit.

3. Afghanistan –

Afghanistan is playing for the first time in the ICC World Cup. This team has some promising players which are exciting. They have gained the experience of playing against top teams like Pakistan and Australia. They had earlier played in the Asia Cup 2014 including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India.

This team had beaten Bangladesh for the first time which is a big achievement. With the World Cup to hold in Australia and New Zealand the bowlers will enjoy, but if they have beat top teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka which looks highly unlikely the batting unit has to perform consistently.

4. UAE –

UAE is team which looks the least likely team to beat any of the top teams. Bangladesh has the habit of beating top teams on their day. They had beaten India in World Cup 2007 and also South Africa in Super Eight stages of World Cup 2007. This team in 2015 has some good players which have the ability to upset big teams.

It is to be seen that they can perform up to the expectations. The other minnows nations Zimbabwe is team which lacks experience. They had beaten Australia last year. This team has some brilliant players like Brendon Taylor, Masakadza, Chigambura. This tournament will be an open tournament and let us hope some of the associate can cause big upsets.
