It’s a dilemma in cricket boards where people at first get sacked and then is restored with management posts. Such was the case when Supreme Court of Pakistan restored Najam Sethi as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), a day after he was sacked by the government, in a fresh twist to a long-running administrative crisis.

The Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif and patron of the PCB sacked Sethi and appointed Jamshed Ali Shah, who is a former high court judge, as interim chief on Thursday. At the time, Sharif also gave instruction that Shah should  hold elections for the chairmanship within 30 days.

But the Supreme Court has since set nullified Sharif’s orders, a court statement exclaimed that becoming the latest development in a 15-month battle to lead the PCB.

A pile of court cases and government decrees were against them so it has led the PCB chairmanship changing hands between Sethi and Zaka Ashraf five times since May last year. This proves they are in serious guilt of various charges.

Ashraf, who was first appointed in October 2011, was suspended by Islamabad High Court in May last year after he was found trying to extend his tenure by getting himself elected in a process termed illegal  by the court and his guilt was charged. Since then Ashraf was successfully restored twice by an appeal bench of the Islamabad court, in January and May of the present year. Sethi challenged the second restoration in the Supreme Court, which reinstated Sethi on May 21st.

The Supreme Court was not at all satisfied about Sharif’s decision to include Sethi in a 12-member governing board, widely it is proclaimed as an attempt by the government to get him elected in the next 30 days. As it was illegal as Sethi was found guilty.

Meanwhile, by this Shah became the 29th PCB chairman in the country’s 66-year history but it was sad that his tenure lasted for just one day.
