Steve Smith, the skipper of Australian cricket team, has aggravated injury on the eve of the ODI against Pakistan to be played at Gabba. Smith talked about the injury during the pre-match press conference where he said that he has made an existing pain on his rib cartilage worse during the net session ahead of the ODI.

The pain was subdued until an extra stretch whilst attempting a forehand smash shot in the practice session caused in relapse of the pain.

Smith was hit by Mitchell Starc’s delivery ahead of the Brisbane Test last month but continued to play with pain. He didn’t even miss a single game during that period.

Again, he will continue to play with pain as the Aussie skipper named himself in the playing XI for the first ODI, “I’ve had a little bit of a sore side for a couple of weeks now, since I got hit in the nets by Starcy here actually, during the Test,” Smith said.

“I played one over my head today, like a smash, and just felt a little something, But it’s been the same for a couple of weeks so no stress.”

Australia will have two debutants for the first game in form of Chris Lynn and Billy Stanlake.

Glenn Maxwell will play his first ODI in more than seven months since he appeared in triangular series featuring hosts the West Indies and South Africa in June 2016. Maxwell, though, was in Aussie squad for Chappell-Hadlee series but was snubbed for all three ODI’s.

Australia XI: David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith (c), Chris Lynn, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, James Faulkner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Billy Stanlake.
