In the recent past, Bangladesh cricket has been stained due to many incidences regarding match fixing scandals. For once again, there has been a shameful incident. Umme Ahmed Shishir, wife of Bangladesh’s prolific cricketer and one of the best all-rounders in world cricket, Shakib Al Hasan was harassed allegedly at the Mirpur National Cricket Stadium gallery on June 15th during the 1st ODI between Bangladesh And India in the 3-match ODI series.
Shakib took a stern step at the incident and he filed a case the following day with Mirpur police over the incident.
After a thorough investigation on the matter, Mirpur police sub inspector, Md. Rasel said that police has arrested “Rahid”, against whom the harassment charges were brought. Rahid is a 23-year old person and is the son of businessman, Bazlur Rahman. He was arrested from his Banani residence in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the statement made by the Mirpur police sub-inspector, Rahid is one of the accused in the case filed by Shakib.
In addition to it, inspector Rasel, who is investigating on the case told bdnews24.com the following, “We are looking for several others based on the description given by Shakib.”
On that particular day of the incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board Security staff had beaten up several of the harassers severely when the game was intervened by the rain in the 2nd innings of the match. Also, it has been reported by the witnesses that Shakib, himself too had joined the BCB security staff in the beating in that moment.
This is indeed a shameful incident and at the present moment, BCB could not even arrange proper security measures for the family of the players, who visit to watch the match. Security measures need to be made more strict and severe punishment should be sentenced over the harassers as they had affected the nation’s fame by doing it.
