Player who are Fastest to 10,000 runs in One day International cricket

In the past, as many as 11 batsmen have crossed the 10,000 mark in One Day Internationals and it can be considered as a special achievement. Out of the 11, 8 are Asians and the rest of them are from West Indies, South Africa and Australia. Playing cricket for a long time and completing this achievement in quick time is much more special.

Here we look fastest batsmen to score 10,000 runs in One day International cricket.

1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar was one of the finest batsmen in all forms of cricket. He has almost all the records in cricket and makes him a champion player. He used to bat at top of the order and created havoc in the minds of the opponent bowlers. He made his One day International debut against Pakistan in 1989. He played 463 One day Internationals and scored 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83. He completed 10,000 One day Internationals against Australia at Indore on 31st March 2001. He was the fastest to complete 10,000 runs in One day Internationals which took him 259 innings to reach five figure mark. He also won the World Cup in 2011 which was a dream for any cricketer. 

2. Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly was one of the finest batsmen for India and captains in Test cricket who made India to win in overseas conditions. He used to come at top of the order with Sachin Tendulkar and put the pressure on the opponent bowlers. He made his One day International debut against West Indies in 1992. He played 311 One day Internationals and scored 11,363 runs at an average of 41.02. He completed 10,000 runs against Sri Lanka at Dambulla on 3rd August 2005. He took 263 innings to complete 10,000 One day International runs. He was a part of the team which had Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag.

3. Ricky Pointing

Ricky Pointing was one of the finest captains in World cricket. He has won World Cup trophies and ICC champion’s trophy title. He was the captain of the team of World Cup 2003 and 2007 team. He played for Australia and used bat at number 3.  He made his One day International debut against South Africa in 1995. He played 375 One day Internationals and scored 13,704 runs at an average of 42.03. He completed 10,000 One day International runs against South Africa at ST Kitts on 24th March 2007 in the World Cup. He took 266 innings to complete 10,000 runs in One day Internationals. He was an excellent Test player too.

4. Jacques Kallis

Jacques Kallis was one of the finest all rounder in cricket both in Test matches and One day Internationals. He used to bowl and bat for South Africa, made countless contributions to the game of cricket.  He made his One day International debut against England in 1996. He played 325 One day Internationals and scored 11, 574 runs at an average of 45.13. He completed 10,000 runs against Australia at Sydney on 23rd January 2009. He took 272 innings to complete 10,000 runs. He also picked 273 wickets in One day Internationals.  

5. Brian Lara

Brian Lara was another top legend who was an attacking batsman. He played for West Indies and came at number 4. He made his One day International debut against Pakistan in 1990. He played 299 One day Internationals and scored 10,405 runs at an average of 40.48. He completed 10,000 One day International runs against Pakistan at Karachi on 16 Dec 2006. He took 278 innings to complete 10,000 runs in One day International. He had the highest score in test cricket which is 400 not out.

6. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid was one of the finest batsmen in Test cricket but he also achieved so much in One day Internationals. He made his One day International debut against Sri Lanka in 1996. He played 344 One day Internationals and scored 10,889 run at an average of 39.16. He completed 10,000 runs against Sri Lanka at Margoa on 14th February 2007. He took 287 innings to complete 10,000 One day Internationals runs.

7. TM Dilshan

Tillakratne Dilshan is the oldest player to play cricket currently. He is the opener for Sri Lankan team. He made his One day International debut against Zimbabwe in 1999. He has played 319 One day Internationals so far and scored 10,007 run at an average of 39.71. He completed 10,000 runs against Pakistan in the last match of the One day International series at Hambantota on 26th July 2015. He took 293 innings to complete 10,000 One day International runs and is looking strong for many more runs. He is 39 years of age and is an excellent fielder too at point, saving many runs. 

8.  Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara was another great batsman for Sri Lanka and world cricket. He used to bat at number 3. He made his One day International debut against Pakistan in 2000. He has played 404 matches and scored 14,234 runs at an average of 41.98. He completed 10,000 One day International runs against Australia at Sydney on 17th February 2012. He retired after the World Cup 2015 from One day International cricket. He took 296 innings to complete 10,000 runs in the shorter format of cricket. He was an excellent wicketkeeper and helped Sri Lanka win many matches on his own. He will be playing his final Test series against India from August 12.   

9. Inzamam-ul-Haq

Inzamam-ul-Haq was another good batsman for Pakistan. He used to come at number 4. He made his One day International debut against West Indies in 1991. He played 378 One day Internationals and scored 11,739 runs at an average of 39.52. He completed 10,000 runs against India at Birmingham on 19th Sept 2004. He took 299 innings to complete 10,000 One day International runs. He was an attacking batsmen and just made the batting look easy.  He also played 120 Test matches and scored more 8,000 runs in longest format of the game.

10.  Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuryia was one of explosive opening batsman for Sri Lanka. He smashed the bowlers all over the park. He made his One day International debut against Australia in 1989. He played 445 One day International matches and scored 13430 runs at an average of 32.36. He completed 10,000 runs against India at Colombo on 9th August 2005. He took 328 innings to complete 10,000 One day International runs. He played 110 test matches and scored 6973 runs. He was another attacking batsman which can change course of the match with his aggressive batsmen.

11.  Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayewardene was the latest to complete 10,000 runs in One day International cricket. He was one of the finest One day International batsmen for Sri Lanka and World cricket. He made his One day International debut in 1998 against Zimbabwe. He has played 448 One day Internationals and scored 12,650 run at an average of 33.37. He completed 10,000 runs against Pakistan at Dubai on 18th November 2011.  He took 333 innings to accomplish this milestone. His records speaks about the ability the contribution he made to cricket. He has also retired from test cricket too in August 2014.
