BBL 06: Twitter Reacts As Melbourne Renegades Edge Out Adelaide Strikers In A Thriller
Jan 16, 2017 at 5:47 PM
Melbourne Renegades defeated Adelaide Strikers by six runs in the bottom of the table clash to register their third win of BBL 06.
Chasing 172, the Strikers made a brilliant start as openers Tim Ludeman and Ben Dunk shared a 53-run partnership before the former was sent back by Nathan Rimmington. 11 runs later, Dunk departed too after scoring 32 but Jake Weatherald and Kieron Pollard were looking well set to keep the chase on track before an unfortunate run-out ended Weatherald’s (11) stay at the crease. The partnership was worth 27 runs and seven runs later, Pollard was dismissed too leaving the Strikers reeling at 98 for 4.
The Adelaide-based outfit was looking well out of the contest when they needed 37 runs from 14 balls after their skipper Brad Hodge returned to the pavilion in the 18th over. However, a 9-ball 21-run knock from Jonathan Dean brought the Strikers into contention but they eventually fell short by six runs.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, the Renegades rode on Marcus Harris’ 53-ball 85 to post 171. Apart from him none of the other batsmen could get to a big score as they huffed and puffed to 171. After Harris, Callum Ferguson was the next highest scorer with 26. Ben Laughlin was the stand-out performer for the Renegades by taking 2 for 15 in his four overs.
Let us see how Twitter reacted to the match:
The Renegades are still alive with a good NRR, but the Strikers are done and dusted finals wise. First team out of contention. #BBL06

If @RenegadesBBL were playing Nineteen19 instead of Twenty20, they’d surely be on top of the table. #BBL06
