The Guyana Amazon Warriors seem to be running away with the top spot in the CPL T20 tournament this year with some sizzling performances.

In the 13th game of the tournament, the Warriors got the better of the St Lucia Zouks as they picked up their 5th victory in 6 games just a game after losing their first fixture this season.

Martin Guptill won the toss and elected to send the Zouks into bat, a decision that was backed up by his bowlers.

The pitch was not easy to bat on but the Zouks wanted to score big and paid the price by losing wickets at regular intervals. By the end of the 10th over, the score was 44/3 and it looked like the Warriors will walk their target off in the second innings.

David Miller and Michael Hussey put on a decent partnership to pull the team out of trouble but Miller fell just after the team reached 100 leaving the Zouks with a tough task of putting on a competitive total on the board.

A late cameo from Darren Sammy, the skipper of the Zouks along with some blows by Hussey before he was out, taking the batting side to 138/6 giving the Warriors a small target of 139.

Hussey ended his innings on 64, almost half the runs of the team come to the end of the innings.

This target was never going to be easy for a batting order as strong as the Warriors’. Martin Guptill and Dwayne Smith smeared off to an explosive start moving the score past 50 in the 7th over. However, Guptill gave away his wicket in the last ball of that over for 19 while Smith lost his wicket in the next over for 32 giving the Zouks a small glimmer of hope.

C Lynn and J Mohammed, however, had different ideas as they went hard at the bowling to take 46 off the next 5 overs to reduce to target to 28 of the last 6 overs.

Both batsmen went on their merry way as they managed to chase the target down with a few more lusty blows in just the 18th over of the game.

Lynn ended with 35 while Mohammed was unbeaten at 43 as both batsmen made light work of a decent target.

J Mohammed was awarded the man of the match for his innings and also his bowling performance of 9 runs that he gave of his two overs in the first innings.

This is the 5th victory for the Warriors in 6 games which puts them at the top of the table while the Zouks are at the bottom of the table with just 1 victory from 3 games.
