English cricket team for the 1st Test match against Sri Lanka has been announced.  The squad consists of the 12 members and consists of 3 new comers in the form of Moeen Ali, Sam Robson and Chris Jordan. Also, there were several players who have been given a recall with them being Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett and Matt Prior.

England had a horrible Ashes in Australia and Prior was removed in the 2nd half of the series. Chris Jordan has been added for the first time , after he has impressed one and all with his pace and swing. Also, he is more than just useful with the bat.

The major exclusions being Kevin Peterson and Tim Bresnan. Peterson was given this news months back that he is no longer going to play for England. Bresnan has to pay for his poor display.

Liam Plunkett got a recall after some good all round show in the county cricket. His International career was haulted after he donated his one kidney to his father and even his poor performances. Moeen Ali has been rewarded of some good T20 performances and domestic ones. He is even very handy with his off spins.

The surprise has been the removal of Ben Stokes, who was one of the positives out of the England’s disastrous tour of Down Under.

The pace attack will be led by Broad and Anderson and will be supported by Woakes, Jordan and Plunkett.

Full squad: Alastair Cook (c), Moeen Ali, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Joe Root, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior (wk), Sam Robson, Chris Woakes, James Anderson, Chris Jordan.
