England vs India, 2nd ODI: Cardiff – Hits and Flops

  • Today was the India finally avenged their defeat by the hands of England by beating the hosts in a miserable way. And showing the world that all hopes are not lost and India can balance the scales by winning the ODI series. Although there was a bit of rain today which reduced the 2nd innings to a 47 overs. India scored 304 runs in 50 overs but due to rain D/L method was applied and England were given a target of 295 runs to chase in 47 overs. England fell quick to India and was all out for 161 runs. Here is the list of the HITS and FLOPS of Day 1.

    Hits of the Day

    1. Suresh Raina

    The all-rounder proved to be the winning trump for India. He made record in this match of scoring his highest and a century outside the subcontinent. It was a proud moment for India and Raina. His century and a wonderful partnership with MS Dhoni removed India from the shackles from England. He scored a ton from 75 balls and scored 144 runs in partnership from 101 balls.

    2. MS Dhoni

    The Indian skipper once again proved why he is the most important player in the Indian Team. He supported Suresh Raina with his innings by keeping a healthy partnership and keeping pressure on the England side.

    3. Ravindra Jadeja

    Ravindra Jadeja displayed a great game and amazed us with his bowling skills. His balls turned and garnered wickets. He picked up 4 wickets in 7 overs. He stopped the powerhouse of the England Batting lineup.

    4. Chris Woakes

    Chris Woakes too picked up 4 wickets but his wickets didn’t do much damage to India as India already scored the needed runs to be ahead in the game. Still he managed to stop India from going super strong.

    5. Rohit Sharma

    Rohit Sharma displayed no game in the Test series but here he proved helpful. He scored a half century and made a much needed stable 91 runs partnership with Ajinkya Rahane who scored 41 runs.

    Flops of the Day                    

    1. Virat Kohli

    Virat Kohli disappointed with his terribly poor performance on the field. He struggled throughout the Test series and continued his reign of bad performance even in the ODI match. He was gone for a duck.

    2. Chris Jordan

    Chris Jordan lost his composure today and was not playing the game the way he should. He gave away a lot of runs and most importantly gave 12 wide runs. He gave away 73 runs in 10 overs and was the most expensive bowler today.

    3. Ian Bell

    Ian Bell too didn’t work today. He scored just a single run and didn’t help England in any way. When England were losing wickets they needed Bell to work but proved them wrong.

    4. Joe Root

    Joe Root too was of no help today. He scored only 4 runs before felling to Bhuvneshwar.
