All-rounder Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the full Test series against South Africa. After being ruled out of the first Test match at Lord’s, he was expected to return to the squad for the second half of the series but he is yet to attain the full fitness to feature in a Test match.

Woakes suffered a side strain during the opening game of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh, after bowling just two overs. Later, Steven Finn replaced him for the rest of the tournament, where the host country lost to the semifinal to Pakistan. (Read Here: Michael Vaughan Slams England Team)

It has come to notice that Woakes did return to training but there is still some stiffness in his arm, thus restricting him to bowl to his full potential. Even if he will be fit for the last Test, the England Cricket Board is expected to ask him to play the county game so as to prove his fitness. He is expected to make a return for the series against Windies, which comprises of three Tests, one T20I and five ODIs. The first Test of the series at Edgbaston will be a day/night fixture, to be played with a pink ball.

There is another good news for England as Jake Ball is in the race to be fit for the final Test match of the series. Before the start of Test fixtures, he was ruled out for a period of two weeks, and also went onto miss Royal London Cup final. Toby Roland-Jones was named in the Test squad in his absence. He was retained in the 12-member squad for the next game but could not make the final cut as England skipper Joe Root retained the same playing XI. Comeback of Ball could mean that Roland-Jones might be dropped upon his comeback. (Read Here: Kemar Roach Recalled For England Tests)

Meanwhile, Windies have named their Test squad for the series against England. Kemar Roach is the biggest name who has made a comeback in the Test side. The squad is almost identical to what Windies fielded against Pakistan with Vishaul Singh the only member to be dropped. Kyle Hope and Raymon Reifer are two new additions to the team.
