Although Indian captain MS Dhoni had imposed full faith in Stuart Binny as the best seam-up all-rounder, but this cricketer from Karnataka has not fulfilled expectations according to the people’s India XI for the team’s World Cup opener against arch rivals Pakistan on Sunday.

A survey was conducted by Cricketnext to predict the playing XI based on people’s vote to find as to which players India should field against Pakistan. Binny, Ambati Rayudu, Mohit Sharma and Axar Patel were not favored by the Indian fans who voted from all around the globe in the online poll.

Axar Patel with 3412 votes remained at the bottom of the tally with Rayudu just above him with 4705, whereas Binny received 6796 votes and Mohit 6848.

The most unanimous and preferred choice, as expected, turned out to be Virat Kohli, who had received 12,658 votes. Rohit Sharma (12,609), skipper MS Dhoni (12,595), Suresh Raina (12,408) and Ajinkya Rahane (12,343) followed suite and became the ones to get more than 12K votes from the fans.

Among the other players, only Mohammad Shami got 10,025 votes. Among the batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan received barely 8761 votes.

Besides Shami, the fans have picked Umesh Yadav (9335) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (8570) as the two other fast bowlers in their proposed playing eleven.

Ravindra Jadeja also made it to the eleven with 9956 votes while R Ashwin was chosen as the specialist spinner with 8207 votes, which happens to be the least among the playing XI selected.

Here comes the People’s Playing XI (in batting order):

1. Rohit Sharma

2. Shikhar Dhawan

3. Virat Kohli

4. Ajinkya Rahane

5. Suresh Raina

6. MS Dhoni (c/wk)

7. Ravindra Jadeja

8. R Ashwin

9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

10. Umesh Yadav

11. Mohammad Shami

It appears that people have chosen a near perfect playing eleven and the only thing which needs to be seen is whether our cricketers are able to utilize their skill to the fullest against Pakistan. In case Rohit, Kohli, Rahane, Raina, Dhoni and Jadeja strike and our bowlers support them even with a mediocre performance, this might prove to be first step towards retaining the coveted trophy. This is people’s choice after all.
