The 1st and the only T20 eneded up with India losing it by 3 runs . India were asked to chase down a target of 181 runs and India managed to score just 177 runs. Here is a look at the hits and flops of the match
Hits of the match:
1: Eoin Morgan: With a complete failure in the ODI series, he had a point to prove to prove to his critics and justify the faith the selectors showed on him after making him the captain of the t20 side. He blasted 71 runs from 31 balls .He was the main reson on why England put up 180 runs on the board.
2: Harry Gurney: He was the main reason why England won the match after Kohli’s innings. He gave just 14 runs in his last 2 overs , keeping things very tight and forcing India to need 17 of the last over.
3: Virat Kohli: He finally scored a half century on the tour and ended up scoring 66 runs from 41 deliveries, putting India to a commanding position . but , India could not seal the advantage and lost it by 3 runs.
4:Alex Hales: A limited overs specialist for England did provide the initial burst to the innings but could not manage enough support from the other end initially. He scored 40 of just 25 balls.
5: Karan Sharma: His figures were the best among the Indian bowlers , as far the economy rate is concerned. His figures were brilliant till the first 3 overs but an onslaught from Morgan did ruin his figures with he giving away 17 runs in his 4th over, giving away a total of 28 runs in 4 overs.
Flops of the day
1: MS Dhoni: He batted very slowly after Kohli got out and the required run rate increased upto 12 ad then to 17 in the final over. He looked obvious to take the match to last over, hard to explain the logic behind it. When he can hit it long, why doesn’t he try it before?
2: Moeen Ali: He came at 1st down and could not open his account with the bat. With India playing 3 regular spinners in the match, he could have been an asset with the bat for England. Though, he picked up 1 wicket, but he did not contribute with the bat.
3: Joe Root: Though he helped England to stabilise the innings after the loss of 2 wickets, but just took a bit too many deliveries for it and perished when it came to accelerating the innings. he scored 26 runs but took 29 deliveries for it.
4:Jos Butler: He made his reputation in the English arena as a T20 specialist , and slowly making to the Test side on the basis of his limited overs performance. He scored just 10 runs and took 15 balls for that, and at a time when Morgan was going all guns blazing.
5:Mohit Sharma: He has made a good reputation for himself as an end over specialist, bowling various slow ball and yorkers. but today was an off day for him with him going for 39 runs , with just 1 wicket in his bag.
