India won the toss and elected to bat first. However the ICC World Champions  lost their top five wickets for a meagre 55 runs. Then strode in Dinesh Karthik, the in-form batsman. He made 146 runs facing 140 balls with 17 fours and a six. He added 211-runs for the sixth wicket with India Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.Skipper Dhoni made 91 runs in 77 balls with 10 boundaries and four huge sixes. India scored 100 runs in their last 10 overs. Hence they finished their quota of 50 overs  puuting on a challenging 308 in 50 overs losing  six wickets. Australian bowlersMitchell Starc and Clint McKay picked-up two wickets each and Mitchell Johnson and James Faulkner picked up a wicket each. Chasing a target of 309 Australiamanaged only 65 losing all of their ten wickets in 23.3 over. In the  first ten overs, the team from down under  were reduced to  28 for 5. Abam Voges made 23 and Phillip Hughes made 14 for Australia. Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav collapsed the Aussie five top order as Ishant Sharma picked up 3 wickets and Ravichandran Ashwincompleted the hunt. As for the Indians, a much improved bowling display will keep them in good heart ahead of Thursday’s Champions Trophy tournament opener against South Africa.
