Indian skipper Virat Kohli and all-rounder Jayan Yadav, today, during their partnership of 241 runs broke the 19-year old record held by Anl Kumble and Mohammad Azharrudin of the highest partnership for the eighth wicket for India. Both Kumble and Azharrudin shared 161 runs for the eight wickets against South Africa at Eden Gardens in 1996 against South Africa at Eden Gardens. Today, the record was broken by Jayant Yadav and Virat Kohli as both of them went on to pile up heaps of runs, taking India way ahead of England’s total.
This was not the only record broken today as Virat Kohli became the first ever Indian batsman to score three centuries in a year, along with that, Jayant Yadav also broke a 51-year record of Farokh Engineer of highest score by a batsman batting at ninth position.
The partnership of Virat Kohli and Jayant Yadav came at a time when they needed it the most as at one position, they were in a position of conceding the first inning lead to England but now Indian team is at a safe position. Meanwhile, Jayant Yadav also scored a century in his short international career.
Currently, Indian team is in a safe position and have a fair chance of winning the game but they will face a race against time as England team have a tendency to make a comeback, especially in the third and fourth innings of the game.
