India women’s team defeated Australia women in the first T20 of three match series at Adelaide Oval, where the boys of the both team will lock horn for the first T20 later in the day.
Australian women, who are known as Southern Star, batting first scored 141. But India chased down the score with eight balls to spare as Harmanpreet Kaur top scored with a match-high 46 from 31 balls.
Australian duo Megan Schutt and Jess Jonassen each took two wickets but could not contain Kaur and her teammates Veda Krishnamurthy and Smriti Mandhana scored 35 and 29.
Earlier Australia posted 5 for 140 courtesy of Alyssa Healy’s fireworks with the bat in the opening match of the three games series.
Healy cracked a rapid-fire unbeaten 41, hitting five fours and two sixes from just 15 balls.
The wicketkeeper-batter combined with veteran Alex Blackwell (27 from 22 balls) to plunder 59 runs from the last 26 balls of the Australian innings, rescuing the hosts from a wobbly 5 for 81.
Debutant Beth Mooney made a composed 36 from 36 balls and featured in a handy 49-run stand with Ellyse Perry (19).
The teams meet against in Melbourne on Friday and Sydney on Sunday.
