IPL 2017: BCCI To Release Funds To State Associations To Host Matches

As the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 is around the corner, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in its meeting under the chairmanship of Vinod Rai alongside former Indian women’s team skipper Diana Edulji on Thursday, agreed upon to make modification in the payment method and releasing of the match funds before state associations would host their different matches.

The CoA held its meeting alongside the members of the 10 state associations to further discuss the preparations, and payment of funds regarding the fast-paced cricket league; IPL.

“It was a very cordial meeting. The best part was that COA and the officials of staging unit are all on the same page. If there are some disgruntled members, it’s their headache but the staging units were all on the same page.”

The representatives who met the CoA, include Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharashtra, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Hyderabad.

The reports suggest each state association would receive INR 60 lakh for hosting every match of the IPL according to the rules and regulations set by the cricket’s governing body in India.

However, the IPL franchises will get 50% of the above-mentioned amount, before the start of the match.

The norm has been changed as the shares of BCCI will also be paid prior to the cricket carnival in India which is beginning from April 5.

“We will get the entire amount before the first match at each centre. The COA was very receptive to our suggestions and said that from this edition the Rs 30 lakh per match that BCCI disburses for staging associations, it will be paid before the first match,” he concluded.

The decision further revealed Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore will get INR 4.20 crore each for hosting seven games, as Kanpur will receive INR 1.20 crore for hosting two matches.

In January, the Supreme Court-appointed four-member committee was asked to run affairs of the cricket body; Board of the Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with its CEO Rahul Johri, before the full-fledged elections would take place to set the house in order.

After the apex body approved the Lodha Reforms recommendations, the CoA were asked to implement the reforms and prepare the status report accordingly.

However, renowned historian and cricket writer Ramchandra Guha and Vikram Limaye, Managing Director of Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) were not present during the meeting on reimbursement of funds.
