The top team of last year’s tournament – Gujarat Lions – have failed to emulate their performance, as they are currently placed at the second last position in the points table with just one win in four games. They have failed to click the right button at the right time.

Bowling has been the biggest weakness of this side, as they do not have someone who can spearhead them. They do not have someone like Zaheer Khan who can lead from the ahead and can also show the direction to the team.

Though Andrew Tye bowled well on his IPL debut but he is someone who is yet to earn that respect of a leader. Same is the case in the spin department, as though Ravindra Jadeja is number one bowler in Test cricket but projecting him as the leader in spin department is quite early and he has a log way to go in T20 cricket.

Already the team is hurt by the absence of Dwayne Bravo and the poor performances of player are nothing less than a cry for Gujarat Lions.

Previous Encounters –

Both these teams have faced each other thrice in past and the Suresh Raina-led side has only been able to taste win once. The biggest disappointment for Gujarat was when RCB boys defeated them in the first qualifier of last year’s IPL to qualify for the finals.

Gujarat will look to take a revenge, as they lost the second qualifier as well and couldn’t qualify for the final despite having played two qualifiers.

Recent form in this seasons –

RCB – LWLLL

GL – LLWL

Talking points –

More than the team’s form, it is the battle between the two young captains of the side which is the biggest talking point, as a few years back, both Raina and Virat Kohli were backbone of the Indian team but Raina’s form dodged him and he was dropped from the team, whereas, Virat continued top tumble records and now he is the skipper of the men in blue across all formats.

This game is of much importance as if Virat loses’s this one, then it will be a big shocker for him. On the other side, it will be a big boost for Suresh Raina and his side Gujarat Lions.

Gujarat Lions precise XI –

Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (capt), Aaron Finch, Ishan Kishan Dinesh Karthik (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dhawal Kulkarni, Praveen Kumar, Andrew Tye, Tejas Baroka.
