The tenth edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to enter its business phase now. The ongoing edition did not start on a good note as several big names missed out the initial games due to injures. While the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock were entirely ruled of the tournament, the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja missed a handful of games before returning to action.
However, the quality of games lived up to the expectations and just like the previous edition there were several nail-biting finishes. Not to forget, the players who lighted up the tournament in its early phase. In the very game, Yuvraj Singh blasted 62 off just 27 balls to set up a 35-run victory for Sunrisers Hyderabad over Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Chris Lynn’s whirlwind knock against Gujarat Lions, Sanju Samson’s century , Nitish Rana’s batting exploits, Rashid Khan’s sensational performances with the ball, Samuel Badree and Andrew Tye’s hat-tricks were enough to set the fans up for another exciting edition of the Indian Premier League.
Moreover, the return of the big guns also increased the glamour quotient of the league. Kohli blasted a 47-ball 62 on his return while his teammate AB de Villiers scores an unbeaten 89 in his first match of the season. Umesh Yadav also made an impressive comeback, picking up four wickets.
The dust has settled now. Six out of the eight teams have now played five matches while the other two have played six games. Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians are sitting at the top three positions with eight points. Kolkata is leading the table due to their superior run-rate while Sunrisers have played one game more than Mumbai Indians. Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab (5th), Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions complete the point table. (The points-table are up to April 19, when Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi Daredevils in the 21st game of the season)
