For RR the top scorers were skipper Shane Watson (50) and Sanju Samson (52) who put together a 74 run partnership for the third wicket to help Rajasthan. Some lusty blows from Steve Smith (27) also contributed to RR’s cause in the last couple of overs.
For KXIP Axit Patel was pick of the bowlers conceding just 22 runs for 1 wicket in his four overs. Mitchell Johnson also put in a much better performance after his hammering in the previous match as he returned with figures of 29 for 1 in his four overs.
Earlier at the toss, Kings XI skipper George Bailey won the toss and elected to field past on a small ground. It was not a surprise as both the teams like chasing and had won their previous match while batting second.
On to the team news, where for Rajasthan Royals Steve Smith replaced veteran Australian Brad Hodge to make his debut for Rajsthan. Hodge was unwell.
Meanwhile Kings XI Punjab, on the other hand, handed a debut to spinner Murli Kartik. The move is seen as a trust in his specialist batsmen, and also conceding his mistake in previous match where he was short of specialist spinners. Karthik replaced all-rounder Rishi Dhawan in the line-up.
