  • At a time when the seventh edition of Indian Premier League(IPL 2014) is about to enter the most interesting phase, Singapore based global firm Wealth-X has unveiled its list of ultra high net worth (UHNW) cricket team owners in the Indian Premier League. Wealth-X works with banks, leading educational institutions, non-profit organisations and luxury brands and tracks ultra-high-net-worth individuals.

    According to the company, Reliance India Limited owner Mukesh Ambani is the wealthiest IPL cricket team owner, whereas Bollywood actress Priety Zinta is the least wealthy. Ambani, the Mumbai Indians owner owns an estimated net worth of 21.2 billion (or 1.29 lakh crore INR), which is almost 10 times the personal fortune of Chennai media baron and the owner of Sun Network Kalanithi Maran, who owns Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise and comes in second to Ambani in this list with 2.2 billion.

    Ambani and Maran are followed by UB Group chairman and Royal Challengers Bangalore owner Vijay Mallya, who boasts a wealth of 640 million. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the Kolkata franchise, has a net worth of 600 million and is in fourth spot among the richest IPL team owners.

    Delhi Daredevils owner and GMR group owner Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao occupies the fifth spot with an estimate of 270 million followed by Rajasthan Royals’ Manoj Badale who owns a worth of 160 million. BCCI President and India Cements bigwig N. Srinivasan who runs the Chennai Super Kings has a net worth of 70 million and comes just ahead of the last placed Kings XI Punjab’s lead lady Priety Zinta who has an estimate of just 30 million.

    The collective wealth of these 8 owners is 25.17 billion, out of total wealth of 935 billion in all of India.
