IPl 7: Yusuf Pathan blitz take KKR to a 4 wicket win over SRH; snatches 2nd place from CSK


  • Chasing a target of 161 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won by 4 wickets, as they reached the target in the 15th over with 34 deliveries to spare against Sunrisers Hyderabad, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Super Saturday.
    For KKR, Yusuf Pathan top scored with a blitz of 72 runs in just 22 deliveries. His fifty came in just 15 balls which was fastest fifty in IPL beating Adam Gilchrist and Chris Gayle’s previous record of 18 deliveries.
    For SRH, Karan Sharma picked up 4 wickets, but to no avail as KKR smashed the other bowlers brutally.
    Having being invited to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) set a huge target of in their 20 allotted overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Super Saturday.
    For SRH, Shikhar Dhawan top scored with 29 runs, while Venugopal Rao and Naman Ojha 27 and 26 runs respectively.
    For KKR, Shakib Al-Hasan, Morne Morkel, Vinay kumar and Ryan ten doeschate picked up a wicket each, while the other three wickets were run-outs.

    Earlier, at the toss, eyeing to end the league phase on 2nd place to get two shots at making the final, Kolkata Knight Riders elected to bowl first at the Eden Gardens. But it will not be an easy task as to get their net run rate above Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders will need to overhaul whatever target Sunrisers Hyderabad set in around 15 overs

    Meanwhile, there is a lot riding on this game even for Sunrisers Hyderabad who by winning this game stand a chance of finishing in fourth place and if Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, but not by a huge margin. Having said that, is not an easy task, though, as Sunrisers’ net run rate is -0.231. For Rajasthan Royals it is +0.247.

    On to the team news now where Sunrisers Hyderabad made two changes to their side which hammered Chennai Super Kings in their previous game, as West Indian fast bowler Jason Holder and batsman S Anirudha, son Krishnamachari Srikanth, made their first appearance this season. The two players who went out of the XI were Aaron Finch and Irfan Pathan. Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, went in with the same team.
