Chasing an almost impossible target of 232, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just managed to score just 187/6 in their 20 allotted overs, thus losing by 44 runs at Cuttack, on Wednesday. This was the first match hosted by Cuttack this season.
For CSK, Faf du Plessis top scored with 52, while Brendon McCullum and Suresh Raina contributed 33 and 35 runs respectively, but it was not enough as CSK in the end were way short of their target.
For Kings XI Punjab, Mitchell Johnson was pick of the bowlers returning with two wickets, Sandeep Sharma, Glenn Maxwell and Rishi Dhawan all picked up a wicket each, while Johnson also chipped in with a run-out.
Having being invited to bat first Kings XI Punjab posted a humungous total of 231/4 against Chennai Super Kings in their 20 allotted overs.
For KXIP, Maxwell top scored with 90, while Miller and Bailey smashed 47 and 40 respectively. Bailey, in fact, scored 40 in just 13 balls smashing six fours and two sixes.
For CSK, Mohit Sharma picked up two wickets, while Ben Hilfenhaus picked up one wicket.
At the toss, for the first time in Cuttack this IPL, who will hosts, for some strange reasons, some the matches for Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and invited Kings XI Punjab to bat first in this exciting top of the table clash.
