New Zealand batsman and part time off spin bowler Kane Williamson recently highlighted in the New Zealand West Indies tour. He played well in the 1st test match and 2nd test match. He proved himself as main pillar of the Kiwi batting side. He can bowl too. He bowled in the only 4balls in the 1st innings and got 1 wicket. He bowled in 2nd test match too. He bowled total 16 overs in the match and got 1 wicket. He is highlighted recently by media not for his batting performance but for his bowling. Clearly we could say he is highlighted not for his bowling performance, for his bowling style.
Kane Williamson has been reported for a suspect bowling action following the second test against West Indies in Trinidad. Williamson had bowled 15.2 overs in the Test, for figures of 1 for 43.After the fall of 10th wicket of New Zealand, Williamson was reported by Ian Gould and Richard Illingworth, the onfield umpires, Rod Tucker, the third umpire, and Chris Broad, the match referee. The report is created on the basis of some deliveries they considered to be suspicious and called a detailed analysis of his bowling action.
He is not the first one in the cricket history who is reported for bowling action. Many bowlers were reported for the same reason previously. Lasith Malinga is one of those names who was once reported for his bowling action. Lasith Malinga has a very distinctive action which is authentic roundarm but International Cricket Council legalized it because his arm doesn’t bend as he bowls, and at the point of delivery his arm is parallel with his shoulder.
According to the International Cricket Council regulation, Williamson will have to undergo testing of his action within 21 days, but can continue bowling in the interim until the results of the test are known.
New Zealand will face West Indies in the third decisive test next 26thjune. Williamson is allowed to bowl in this match. Let’s wait for the judgment of International Cricket Council for his future bowling career.
Sachitra Senanayake of Sri Lanka has also been reported for his bowling action two weeks ago during the one day international series against England.
