Liverpool vs Watford: Preview, predictions, expected line-ups and predictions

After the euphoria of the emphatic 3-0 victory over Villarreal in the semi-final of the Europa League, Klopp’s Liverpool will turn their attention towards the Premier League this weekend as they welcome Watford on Sunday.

Quique Sanchez Flores has got his side playing some sizzling football this season with a traditional 4-4-2 formation and with nothing much to play in the league, they will hope to finish the season on a strong note with a result this weekend.

As was the case in the 3-1 defeat to Swansea, Klopp is expected to ring in the changes for this game once again giving the visitors a chance of an upset but the momentum and confidence in the home side dressing room might take them through this game.

Here is the preview of this game, along with the team news, predictions, expected line-ups and betting odds:

The Liverpool vs Watford game will be played on Sunday the 7th of May at the Anfield stadium in Liverpool. The kickoff is scheduled at 4:00 pm BST (8:30 pm IST).

Team News:

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that there are no new injury problems for the squad from the last game. Henderson, Origi, Ings are all out injured while Mamadou Sakho is still out serving his one-month ban. Joe Gomez and Rossiter are the only other two injuries for the home side for this game.

Sanchez Flores also has a relatively fit side for this trip to Anfield. Behrami, Capoue, and Gilmartin remain the long-term injuries but apart from the trio, the manager has a fully fit squad to pick from. Deeny and Ighalo, who have been in good form off-late are expected to lead the side once again on the night.

Expected Line-ups:

Ward; Randall, Skrtel, Lucas, Moreno; Allen, Stewart; Ojo, Firmino, Ibe; Benteke

Gomes; Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Ake; Abdi, Suarez, Watson, Jurado; Ighalo, Deeney

Key Battles:

Christian Benteke vs Cathcart:

The Big Belgian Liverpool striker scored in his first outing back from injury in the last game against Swansea City. He also looked sharp and with these few games giving him the last chance to prove himself at the club, Benteke will be at his best and will be up against a solid Cathcart who has been solid in recent times. This will be an intriguing battle all night long.

Troy Deeney vs Martin Skrtel:

Long-serving striker Troy Deeney has been a powerhouse in the final third for Watford this season. However, he will not find it easy against the likes of Martin Skrtel who has been a solid presence at the back for Liverpool over the years. However, both players have gone a bit cold in recent times and this will be a perfect opportunity for one of the two to come up triumph.

Key Stats:

Watford’s 3-0 win in the reverse fixture is their biggest margin of victory over Liverpool.

However, Watford’s only competitive win in 11 attempts against Liverpool at Anfield came in August 1999 when Tommy Mooney scored the only goal in a Premier League meeting.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are on a 10-match unbeaten run at Anfield, including four Europa League wins (W7, D3).

However, they have only won three of their seven most recent league games (W3, D2, L2).

The Reds have dropped an unrivalled 19 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season.

Watford have won two of their last three games, taking as many points as they had from their previous nine league fixtures.

This was only Watford’s second win in nine league games.

The Hornets have scored just 12 Premier League goals in 2016, a joint-league-low with Villa.

Betting Odds:

Liverpool: ½

Draw: 7/2

Watford: 13/2

Liverpool’s youngsters were taken to the cleaner in the last game at the Liberty stadium which will mean that Klopp will want a bit more from the side he puts out on Sunday. However, Watford have been hard to beat this season and we can expect a similar performance from the visitors on the night who might get away from this game with a point.

Our Prediction: Liverpool 3-3 Watford
