Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal, the Rising Pune Supergiant opener has praised new skipper Steven Smith, by calling him an approachable captain, as he said,

“He (Smith) is very understanding and approachable as a captain. We go up to him if we have a suggestion and he listens to it. He brings intensity on the field. He has got a lot of experience and that helps us.”

Further, Mayank termed Dhoni as an inspirational player, who is nice to have in dressing room,

“He (Dhoni) is always inspirational. He is very nice to have in the dressing room. We get to learn a lot from him as youngsters,” he added.

The comparison between the two players is inevitable as both have a contrasting style of leading any side. Dhoni was quite rigid as a captain. He did not like to make changes in the side, whether the results are in his favour or, whereas, Smith is someone who is ready to make changes in the side, giving a chance to youngsters, the glimpse of which we saw in the second game played by RPS in IPL.

Skipper Smith made two changes to the side, bringing in Rahul Chahar and Daniel Christian in place of Deepak Chahar and Adam Zampa.

Not just Smith, Dhoni is also compared with Virat Kohli, who has just taken over the captaincy in limited overs format after the former relinquished the role on January 4 earlier this year.

But it is also a fact that Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket.

On the other side, Ajikya Rahane, the vice-captain of Indian Test side had different view, as after the first game against Mumbai Indians, he said Dhoni is still the best captain he has played under,

“If you have seen, he was giving the inputs to Smith. Smith has done well for Australia but for me, MS Dhoni is still the best leader. This is my first game under Smith but he is learning from Dhoni as well. I was actually watching them when he was taking advice from Dhoni and he would like to take more advice from him in coming games.”

There had been a controversy since Steven Smith has replaced MS Dhoni as skipper of the side and the matter got air when Harsh Goenka, brother of Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of Rising Pune Supergiant termed Smith as a better player than Dhoni.

In upcoming days, we might see many more comparisons coming out, which might or might not affect the performance of the team in future.
