Tainted pacer Mohammad Aamir was picked in the Pakistan squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. Aamir was named in Pakistan’s ODI and T20I squads that will play limited overs series against New Zealand in New Zealand, commencing from the 15th of January.
Aamir’s selection is massive news as Pakistan’s cricketing fraternity remained divided over the inclusion of the tainted pacer. Aamir was banned from the sport for five years after being found guilty of spot-fixing and deliberately bowling no-balls against England in the Lord’s test way back in 2010.
Aamir has come a long way since then and recently participated in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after his ban expired. Recently, senior players Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali had evidently stated that they were strictly against Mohammad Aamir’s reintegration into the Pakistan side. Ali, Pakistan’s ODI captain had also offered his resignation to PCB chairman Shahryar Khan if Aamir was selected in the team. However, his resignation was not accepted by the PCB. As of now, Ali has been named as Pakistan’s captain for the ODI series against New Zealand.
