Newspaper Mocks Sri Lankan Team After Humiliating Loss To Bangladesh

More drama awaits in store for the Sri Lankan cricket fraternity after the side lost the second Test at Colombo against Bangladesh in a humiliating fashion. It was obvious that the defeat to a low ranked team like Bangladesh wouldn’t go down too well with fans, and that has emerged up with a newspaper making a mockery out of the Sri Lankan team.

Inspired by the acts of the English media of the late 19th century, The Island, a leading Sri Lankan daily, published an obituary for Sri Lankan cricket, denouncing the death of the sport in the nation. This is similar to what the English media did in the late 19th century after the side after the side lost to the Australians.

The Island published an entire obituary which mentioned the death of the game in Sri Lanka. “In affectionate remembrance of Sri Lankan cricket which died at the Oval on 19, March 2017. The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Bangladesh,” the note read.

The loss is bound to be a colossal low for the Sri Lankan side as it comes on home terrain, a place where they are considered to be unbeatable.  Bangladesh managed to win a Test in Sri Lanka, and that is something that even Australia couldn’t do on their previous trip here in 2016.

With the Test series done and dusted after being drawn 1-1, the hosts will be eager to redeem themselves and salvage some lost pride in the upcoming ODI series. The first ODI will be played on the 25th of March at Dambulla.
