The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Shahryar Khan has welcomed the return of his ‘old friend’ as the President of the BCCI. He also mentioned of the fact that he will be visiting India later in this particular week with the intent of seeking confirmation from his counter-part on the planned series between India and Pakistan from 2015 to 2023.
It is a fact that both Dalmiya and Khan were in charge of their respective boards when India toured Pakistan back in 2004, after a 14 year gap.
Shahryar Khan said that Dalmiya is an old friend of him and he hopes that they would continue the good relations of the past. He also mentioned that they were able to organise a landmark visit back together back then and he is confident that they would find a way to restore the cricketing ties between the two nations.
Also, Khan hopes that Pakistani players get to play in the IPL but he also mentioned of the fact that priority is to resume the bilateral series between the nations.
He also said that he will be coming to India on Thursday or on Friday and he would hope for a fruitful meeting with Dalmiya and also with other BCCI officials. He also said that the priority is that they should confirm the MoU that have been signed between the two respective boards to play a total number of six series in the next eight years.
According to that particular binding agreement, India and Pakistan are scheduled to play a total of 12 Tests, 30 ODIs and 11 T20 Internationals which will be spread over six series with the first one to be scheduled in December, 2015.
The last time the arch rivals played a bilateral series was in December, 2012- January, 2013 when Pakistan toured India for a short series.
Pakistan has not hosted an international match since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan players way back in 2009.
