Holding Up The Appointments Of Rahul Dravid And Zaheer Khan Humiliating, Says Ramchandra Guha

  • The Story

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) finally brought relief to all the fan anxiety about who was going to be the next Head Coach of Team India. As it was anticipated, the CAC decided to go with former team director Ravi Shastri as a replacement for former coach Anil Kumble.

Along with his appointment, the CAC also chose former left arm fast bowler Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant’s role and batting legend Rahul Dravid as the overseas batting consultant.

But, rumours spread that both Zaheer and Dravid have not been finalised yet for their respective roles. Reports suggested that Shastri had issues with Zaheer Khan’s appointment and he wished to have trusted aid Bharat Arun as the bowling coach instead.

As of now, the dust has settled completely as Sourav Ganguly has come out to clarify that Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid have convinced to take up the job with the national team.

Former COC member Guha feels Dravid and Zaheer were disrespect

Former Committee of Administrators member Ramachandra Guha has criticised the approach of appointing Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan for their respective jobs. He feels that the duo was subjected to “public humiliation” by CAC’s manner as election was put on hold after the initial announcement.

“The shameful treatment of Anil Kumble has now been compounded by the cavalier treatment of Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid,” Guha tweeted.

“Kumble, Dravid and Zaheer were true greats of the game who gave it all on the field. They did not deserve this public humiliation,” he added.

As per the minutes of the meeting, the “appointments of other consultants will be decided by the committee in consultation with the head coach”.

Guha had resigned from the CoA, lambasting the “superstar culture” in Indian cricket, while also hitting out at former players on ‘conflict of interest’ issues.tw
